Encrypt a .bat file ?

Does anyone know if its possible to encrypt a .bat file so when you edit the file it won't be readable ?

Yes, you can use the Encrypting File System (EFS) in Windows 7 to encrypt a .bat file.

what happens if somebody copies the batch file onto another os?

i guess you'll be able to read/edit it then?

Is the emphasis on encryption or is it enough to prevent "average Joes" from editing/reading the batch?
In that case use a Batch compiler to convert the batch into an EXE file. It makes an 85kb EXE out of a 4kb BAT
but this exe is virtually un-editable without an extensive knowledge in certain programming languages.
Who has said knowledge gets around your BAT anyways

Maybe you could just zip up the files with winrar or 7zip or whatever and place a password.

let you know, the Quick Batch File Compiler is extracting the file conten to the %temp% folder and its visible and not secure at all.

What do you mean by "secure"? What's your exact intention?

Prevent other people from change the file? Simple file permissions are a better option.
Prevent people from reading the file? What would be the benefit in that?
