I tend to take promotional statements such as this with a grain of salt.

true, and you can catch most of them by word usage. "Up to 18 months" is quite broad. But sometimes you hope that you are able to get the full months out of them.

...I can't find a single thing on battery life comparing optical, laser, Bluetrack, or the new Darkfield.

My G700 will last 2 days with the Sanyo Eneloop 2Ah battery, about 20 hours of use.
The battery meter isn't accurate, it will go from 3 green bars to red in less than a day and then run the next day in the red, then it just dies.
I was playing some MW3 last night when it died on me.

I would hate to have to change the battery constantly, that is why I didn't switch originally to wireless.

I have a single AA standard Duracell Alcaline Battery (came with the mouse) that has been working for at least 2 months in a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 (the mouse claims to last up to 6-8 months). This is the bluetrack tech I was talking about.

Interestingly, I think it was the Mobile Mouse 4000 that claimed to last up to 10 months, and I felt the new tech jealousy disease (NTJD).

I use my mouse all day at work, and turn it off only when I'm gone from the desk or when I pack it up.

The G700 is both a wired and wireless mouse. Plugging in the usb cable turns it into a wired mouse and charges the battery.
My old Performance MX was wireless only and plugging in the usb cable would only charge it.

i have the arc touch mouse and i have changed the batteries once since i bought it before last november. i use it for several hours every evening and some mornings.
the bluetrack technology is about the mouse being usable on most surfaces, even my belly ( though that blocks the wireless signal! )

^^^^^^ Is this what the glass portal displays back? It lies, you know. That is fact, experience tells me it is so

I do know that particular aspect of the tech, but I imagined that surely there would be an energy consumption difference between the many different types of mice. Perhaps not enough to get excited about.
