Enhancing Video Memory on a Laptop (Toshiba S L300)

So I have a Toshiba Satellite L300, 2Ghz Dual Core, 2Gb Ram, yet my video capacity looks like this:

Is there something I can do about this? I tried finding some "Advanced Chipset Features" or "VGA Memory Size" section in BIOS but there was none. I can't even play right the crappy Counter Strike game. This is terrible!

What you are seeing is typical for laptop video. Laptops are not game machines and nothing you can do will make it so. But I doubt that memory is the issue here but the low performance of the video system. High performance video, a requirement for many modern games, are contrary to the priorities of laptop design. The priorities are low weight and power consumption. High performance means greater power consumption and more heat. In a laptop with components confined to a small space with limited cooling facilities that is a serious problem. Laptops tend to run hot as it is.

OEM computers in general and laptops in particular tend not to have advanced BIOS settings.

As LMiller says mate I have had a fair bit to do with Toshibas and there is nothing much you can do.

What you could do to improve the performance a little is do some of this.

First and foremost I would throw in some more RAM for starters

So there's nothing I can do to fix this, except buy a new laptop? ) Jesus. It's just weird that it seems to be a good system yet the video sucks. My old PC had the exact same capacity but a better video card (not that great but better). I could play on that the latest games and that's what strikes me odd. For a Dual Core at 2Ghz and 2Gb Ram, it doesn't really give the performance that it should. Something is off.

I've had it with Desktops for now. I'm just sticking to Laptops for a while. They're much more cost effective...like...a lot more. So while now I'm feeling a little short on cash, I could really benefit from a laptop. Later on...of course I'll build the biggest bad-ass Alienware Desktop that I can build!

Laptops are designed for portability and convenience, and in todays market we must add low cost as well. To achieve these goals many compromises must be made and sacrifices accepted. One such sacrifice (but not the only one) is high performance video. With todays technology it simply isn't possible to provide that and meet the major priorities.

Laptops WERE designed in a way but things changed. What? There are no alienware laptops? Of course they are. The near future will probably make laptops more interesting than ever. I just don't see how a well-constructed laptop like my laptop has no well-constructed graphics. Dual Core, 2 Ghz, 2Gb memory plays almost every game...so this is not really a simple portable thing that you carry around and that overheats and that's it.

Hold on joiex you came here asking for advice and I can tell you that your computer mate is not that good. If you take a look at the specs my friend you will see you have DDR2 RAM for instance and what is really quite an out dated processor, and you expect to run quite involved games.

I am at the moment on an L550 Pro Sat with an i5 and 8GB RAM and even I wouldn't expect to run anything more than simplistic games if I was that inclined to or had the time!!

That you have made the comments you have is really not conducive to anyone offering you help. If you already know that you have a good and useful computer why come here and ask for our thoughts and experience in helping you out.

If you want my advice and I don't expect for one second you will I would be toning down the attitude as I for one (and I suspect others would also) do not appreciate the way you have said what you have.
