Hi,

I just bought a San-Disk Cruzer Blade 8Gb flash drive.

I am frustated with the speed it is achieving.
It gets a speed of around 5MegaBytes ps and i am not at all satisfied with this.

plz help me with the issue.

you can check my system specs.
I think its nice for USB flash drives to perform afap.

could be the usb speed 2.0 vs 3.0 on the mainboard could affect it im not sure but i would think if the flashdrive is one of the faster usb makes and you have either or 2.0 that could be the problem

What kind of file are you moving that moves at that speed? Highly fragmented files move slower than compact ones.

Try this test. Copy a large file (20-30MB or larger) from HDD to stick and note the stated speed and number of seconds it takes. Then copy it back from stick to HDD into a new folder and record the same stats. Then copy it back again from the new folder to the stick and record the stats. Any major differences?

Another thing to test is to plug the stick into one of the usb ports in the back of the case that go directly into the motherboard and run the same test. Sometimes it is those external USB connectors that are not running at USB 2.0 speeds. I had one. Had to get a replacement from Antec.

Well, i moved a file of size 700 Mb(a movie) and had speeds of 5Mbps.

And, i knew about that case issue so i tried the MoBo's USB port with the same results.

Are you relying on the windows reported speed or are you actually calculating the speed?

The windows "Guestimate" for transfer speed is rather unreliable, and is also a snapshot so unless you are continually updating may show an incorrect figure anyway.

also of course any transfer rates given for cards and or USB are lab results and real world reselts will always be (considerably), lower, when other factors are taken into consideration.

The speeds you are quoting are what I would expect from USB 1.1 not 2.0 so there is something not right somewhere.

Check in Device manager for "High Speed" USB bus and perhaps check if a driver update is available, you may also want to switch off legacy USB support in BIOS and see if that improves things.

Along with what Barman is saying, in an AMI BIOS, under the Advanced Tab > USB Configuration > Your settings should be:

• USB Functions : Enabled
• USB 2.0 Controller : Enabled
• USB Controller Mode: HISpeed
• BIOS EHCI Hand-Off: Enabled
• Legacy USB Support: Auto

Check those settings and let us know.

Went to the SanDisk website. Found only one review for the 8GB Cruzer Blade. The reviewer said he was disappointed with the write speeds. Only 4MB/sec. Perhaps you're actually experiencing the high end of the write standard.

No transfer rate shown.

About the same as my Memorex.

This is not unusual. I have 2 sticks from the same manufacturer - and look at the performance difference, especially access time.

I disabled the legacy support and am getting the asme speeds..:|
i have a considerably new MoBo as you can see. It has USB 2.0 and my cabinet also has the same.

Unless there is a solution to this, I think i have to manage with the speed(slow speed).
