Entire Network/Network Map

Hi everyone,

In Windows XP, you could view an entire Windows network via My Network Places and access multiple Domains.

I can't seem to figure out how to do this in Windows 7.

If I select "See Full Map" via Network & Sharing Center, I get the full map for the domain I'm logged onto, but not other domains.

I could do this in XP, but seemingly not in Win7.

has anyone come across this before?

The way I understand this, is that this change is by design, to reduce "clutter" and improve security and stems from the degradation of the NETBUI support in win7.

you should still be able to access the wider network by using the FQDN and the network view will display non local domain devices on the full view if they are on the same subnet, (you may need to adjust the netmask you are using)

Just my understanding so if anyone knows of a way to return the old way please let us know

hello, many thanks for your reply.

Both Domains I wish to access are on the same subnet. Yet my Win7 machine doesn't seem to know the "non local" domain exists.

I can't even ping a PC on this domain.
