Enviroment variables problem

I am having this problem in the image:


even if in the path displayed is correct and exists. I tryed anyway to change this variable and the files in `C:\\Program Files\Java\apache-maven-2.2.1` or `C:\\Program Files\Java\apache-maven-2.2.1\bin` or `C:\\Program Files\apache-maven-2.2.1\bin` as I read in different forums.

My enviroment variables are set up as follow:

environmental variables look set as instructed

Instead of "Program Files"
If running 64 bit OS
you may mean "Program Files (x86)"
that's where the java subdirectory/folder lives.

But how to change that?? I think I don't understand properly your answer.
If you mean change my enviromenta variables like, for instance:
JAVA_HOME= C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_18

and so on, it doesn't work either:

ERROR: JAVA_HOME is set to an invalid directory.
JAVA_HOME = C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_18
Please set the JAVA_HOME variable in your environment to match the
location of your Java installation

On looking again at your environmental variable set list, it looks like you're running a 32 bit system. In which case the advice I gave is not your solution.
We run a 64 bit system & that's where my son stored his java stuff under (x86).

It looks like you downloaded material from the Apache Maven Project and the error clearly states it doesn't like the directory path you have nominated.

Maybe check the installation documentation again and check where the installation is actually located.
eg. what's in:
C:\Program Files\apache-maven-2.2.1\bin

Someone may come along with better advice.

PS: Fill in your computer specs more fully.
