Epson SX410 network printer - windows default scanner.

Hi, having some problems with Windows Default scanner interface. Epson SX410 networked printer (connected to a router and serves a number of PC's, all Win7 64bit).

We have some specific software used to scan customer information into the program, sadly its been designed to use Windows default scanner interface.

The scanner does work through Epson Scan, and a few months ago I had successfully added so it functioned through "Scanners and Camera", accept since then the router has been swapped and for the life of me I can't figure out what, and how I'd managed to do it?

The device is simply not detected by "Microsoft Scan Service".

So the scanner works fine, accept not through the default windows 7 scanning software which is what I need.

Any suggestions?

Ive tried obviously re-adding the printer.

Hello and welcome Gorlist mate rather obvious I know but have you tried reinstalling the drivers??

Hum I had an idea it probably might not work James. The router mate is it a different brand or type or what it may be the problem - in it's software perhaps??

Have a look at this it might give you an option Add or remove a scanner

It's now a BT Homehub v3 instead of a TP-Link ASDL. Thanks for the link, had already viewed. I'm totally stumped, will try re-doing the drivers again but have a feeling its going to make no difference. As mentioned, printer works fine, and the scanner does using the Epson Utility... The software hasn't been touched and again nothing can be defined as it just uses the default device from the MS scan service.

Well the reviews and specs look ok for the BT router perhaps the software run again maybe of use James.

If not a call to their support might be in order.

Personally I like the TP-Link gear and shame it had to be replaced

Yes, it should be fine! slightly irritating as i'm unsure if I did anything special last time to fix it. Will have one last shot, will triple check the drivers.

Thank you for your help. Yes TP link seems okay, but never overly impressed with the wifi -just a case of they've upgraded to BT Infinity so they've changed ISP.

See if this procedure may work:

Hi, log into the hub and note the ip address of the printer, on the W7 PC,

Start>Devices and Printers
Right Click>Add printer
Select Add Network Bluetooth option
Search box pops, select the option The printer that I want isn't listed
Next box ensure that Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname is selected>Next
Next box type in the ip address of the printer you've obtained from the Hub>Next

After that follow the instructions, probably be install driver, if it is then click have disk and point to your cd drive.

If all goes well it should install, you may the be able to login to the printer via its ip address using a browser, don't know.

The best option to set this up is to connect the computer to the hub via ethernet rather than wireless, set up up the printer, then disconnect the ethernet and the computer will 'talk' to the printer wirelessly,

I wondered if you were using wired or wi-fi, if you notice the post below my source link I show, you may have to lower the wi-fi security to WPA if its set to WPA2, I've seen that tip in several places.

Yes Anak I agree tooI have mine set for the high security although I admit I have the router disabled for wifi as I don't work from other rooms and I am a bit paranoid too

Worry is the problem when you lower the security setting.

Here at home we use the WPA2 setting, and I have the transmitting power percentage setting, set as low as possible to allow the wife excellent coverage while she is inside the house.

As a check I had her go outside to see if her galaxy phone could pick up the wi-fi signal, and as long as she is within five feet of the house's outside walls she has coverage, but at any distance greater than that, you wouldn't know we even had wi-fi. The closest road/street is 40feet away, and houses 30feet (9 to 10 meters). On the other hand I can see neighbors wi-fi signals from a hundred yards away (90meters).

With Gorlist's work situation, if, he was using wi-fi it would be best if he remained on WPA2, but that's a moot point now, I only offered because I wasn't sure.

Just installing a regular printer on a stand-alone machine can be a tricky situation, and Epson's are among the trickiest.

I have some questions for clarification:

• Your thread title says BX310, but your post title says SX410, Is it one or the other or both?
• And, when you say hub, do you mean the new BT Homehub or is there an in between hub before your Epson connects to the BT Homehub?

Hi, yes sorry it was a mistake on the topic thread. It is a SX410.

BT Home Hub v3 ADSL router. I don't believe its anything to do with the hardware as per say, just an odd Windows anomaly. Going to retry with the drivers today, and to do some more fiddling, trawling the web and very little on the ms scan service, and suggestions with networked combination printers :|

Hum never ever used an Epson I cannot comment on their worth most of my stuff at home has been Canon and at work just about all HP apart from the very large fax / scanners/ copiers etc which have been Canon I guess because of cost.

My next printer is going to be HP so it will be interesting to see what happens when I use it from the machine.

Will be interesting to find out how you got on.
