Error 0x0000000d

I get this error 0x0000000d message when trying to connect to my printer. I have a 7 computer connecting to a Vista with the printer connected to it. I have tried various methods including ones on Microsoft answers and have got no answers. When I try to connect to the printer on the Network page, on the vista computer it works but, when I do the same on the 7 computer it gives me an error message.

Have tried these:-

Windows cannot connect to the printer, Operation failed with error error 0x0000000d.
Error code 0x0000000d. Accessing a printer on a network.
Install network printer -- error message 0x0000000d
error 0x0000000d when adding a network printer from vista to vista
0x0000000d error on vista connecting to windows 7 printer
various others from around the world.


Have since done a reinstall on both computersand still the problem exists...
So, in my view it has to do with one of the updates that have occured in the last week or so as I was able to use it no probs last week.
This is goin to take a miracle to fix...

What about trying from Vista connecting to W7 with the printer connected to it?

That works fine. I don't understand this as the printer worked fine up until about a week ago. But now, after a reinstall & updated of both computers it must mean it's an update fault. Yes?

When you said it works fine before, was it also W7 and Vista? It could possibly be a driver issue. Have you tried a system restore or uninstall the updates you did?

Why would I try to do a system restore after a complete fresh install of 7 and Vista?

Good point of the restore when you did a fresh install lol. With a gun pointing at me it's hard to read...
What else can you do? compare the settings between the vista and w7? If it works for vista, it should work for w7.

From my perspective I think it has something to do with accessto the printer. Very uncertain as to what may be causing this.

What it's not:-

1. Not the driver.
2. Not the sharing aspect of Vista's computer.
3. Not an update.
4. What the H*** can it be?

Here is the solution:


Create a local printer using a Local Port with the name


\\machine\printshare

I know this works on 7

Run a command prompt and type the following:
net use LPT2: \\servername\printer
This sets up a behind-the-scenes connection to the printer.
Then go through the add printer wizard, choose to add a local printer, and choose port LPT2... It will probably ask for a printer driver, and you can just choose whatever XP driver you might have been using before. The printer is then installed without any errors, and works just fine.
