Error 0xc0000428 can not fix

Hello all

I have a gateway netbook and these do not have DVD/CD drives. I tried to do a system restore on it and now I get the following:

A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source.

if you have a windows installation disc, insert the disc and restart your computer. Click "repair your computer" and then choose a recovery tool.

Otherwise, to start windows so you can investigate further, press the ENTER key to display the boot menu, press F8 for advanced Boot Options, and select last known good. If you understand why the digital signature cannot be verified and want to start windows without this file, temporarily disable driver signature enforcement.

If I start the computer it jumps right to this. If I follow the instructions in the error it jumps back to the error screen. For example I hit Enter, I see the gateway logo and then it goes to the error again. I get no boot menu or other screen.

What can I do?

You can get the appropriate windows version for your netbook from here.

Interesting, the filename is actually the directory to the file and the name of the file itself. Pretty strange.

Anyways, try going into the recovery environment by tapping F8 key rapidly at startup. Then go to the Recovery environment in the boot options if provides. From there, it may attempt to do a startup repair, which you'll want to cancel, then select the option to access system recovery options. Open command prompt and type bootrec /fixboot. See if that works.

There's a possibility you'll need to use either a Windows DVD or a live cd environment like Parted Magic to resolve this (or at least backup files), in which case you'll need a DVD drive (Parted Magic does have a USB installer, tho). I assume your netbook has a USB port, which you can purchase an external DVD drive to connect to it.

Can any of this be done from one computer to another via USB? I dont have a flash drive.

It can't, I'm sorry. You must either have a flash drive or an external optical drive. Now, you can try the bootrec thing in the recovery environment on your drive and not on the Windows DVD or recovery CD, but the chances of success are slimmer. Still it's worth a shot before going out to pay for an item. If it does not fix your problem, there's a good chance you're going to have to shell out for a flash drive or external USB optical drive to do what Arc and I recommended. Or, you can just go the free route and use the recovery partition to wipe your netbook and replace it with a fresh install of Windows.
