Well I thank you all for all your replys to my problem, everything worked out almost fine.... seems that the coprocessor has a exclamation point. Windows can't find the driver and I'm not having any luck at finding them either. HP website was no help. Without buying any driver finder type software is there a way to find the right drivers.

I have attached a .docx file with screenshots

THX for your help in advance

Well I'm just not sure. Looked at your Device Manager in new upload. I see Nvidia listings but lost on the co processor. Not what I thought it was.

Will make a request for more help. Get an expert for you I hope. :)

Explanation of error codes generated by Device Manager in Windows XP Professional

(Should be the same in Win 7)

The "Error 28" looks like the driver was not installed properly, then the "Error 38" would seem to indicate that the driver reinstall retry and the original driver install both tried to start and got in each others way.

If you're sure you have the right driver(s) downloaded, I would uninstall everything related to the nVidia chipset, reboot, then let Windows have another shot at it. :)

O.K., I went to the compaq website and picked my laptop, since windows 7 was not on the list I chose vista for my OS downloaded and installed the drivers. If you use the path of control panel--> hardware and sound--> Devises and printers, the exclamation point over the picture of the laptop is gone. But also after I updated the drivers the other devices --> coprocessor part and storage controllers are not there anymore. Will this be a problem?

I've attached some screen shots.

THX in advance! ;)

Looked at the new file.
Excellent.
You may have had the wrong driver installed or Microsoft installed what it thought was the right one.. So the driver was looking for a co processor that did not exist.
Device Manager recognized a driver installed but no device for it.

Anyway it appears good now.

Yes it is a dual core processor. Two built in one CPU as a tandem. One is not a co processor though.

Wikipedia-
A coprocessor is a computer processor used to supplement the functions of the primary processor (the CPU). Operations performed by the coprocessor may be floating point arithmetic, graphics, signal processing, string processing, or encryption. By offloading processor-intensive tasks from the main processor, coprocessors can accelerate system performance.
