Error 633

Hi there,
I am running win7 64bit and have been having issues with a 3 usb modem (Huawei E122). I have loaded and updated all software as required (the 3 store assures me it's 64 bit compatible).
The 3 software loads and detects the modem. Fine. I hit connect, I get a message that a port is being opened...then the 633 error that the modem is already in use or has not been configured properly!!
This modem does work on another install of win7 on the same laptop (i tried to re install and now have the boot manager at startup wanting to know which win7 i want !!). All the connections etc in device manager look the same...
The system i am having the issue with is the default alienware one.

any clues?

ps - the guys on the phone from 3 are stumped and dont really have an answer.

Download CCleaner and Drive Sweeper and remove anything to do with your modem.

Shut down the laptop and cold boot with the modem plugged in.

Once it finds the modem and loads the drivers check to see what Com port it uses, if not Com 2 reset it to this and see if your Area Code is in the Area Code field if not put it there, I realize you might not be using this as a dial up modem but trust me this has been an issue since Win98 and don't have enough fingers to count how many times this has been the show stopper.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. In safe mode, remove all the modem drivers, and then restart the computer.
   Windows will redetect the modem.
2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3. Click Add or Remove Programs.
4. Click the incompatible software, for example, Palm Desktop and Synchronization Software.
5. Click Change/Remove, and then follow the steps to remove the software

Error 633 fix for w7x64

ERROR 633 is not a software problem, or a BIOS problem, or a driver problem, or a modem problem. When I was presented with the ERROR 633 window, I went to the MANUFACTURER (Microsoft) to see what they had to say. Sure enough, ERROR 633 was listed - and with a solution in the form of a small download. The problem is a MICROSOFT problem and requires a patch for the OS. Remedy: Download small attachment and apply patch or goto Ms Website and DL direct. (My attachment is original and clean). God Bless.
