Error 800B0100

Not quite - one wrong and one nearly right :)

To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer,
From the list in the left side of the window select Windows Logs
Then System.
Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as... and give the file a name.

Do the same for the Applications log.

The most common error in the Applications log is that Logitech Setpoint is crashing.
I suggest that you uninstall and reinstall it. Support + Downloads: SetPoint - Logitech

Lately, there have been a number of instances of ARO2012 also crashing - This is a registry cleaner - please UNDO anything it's done, using its options, and then uninstall it. Also uninstall any other Registry Cleaner/Optimiser programs you have.

There are a number of issues in the System log - many of which are well beyond my understanding.
We do seem to have reduced the frequency of such issues, though :)

I need to do some research on that - back later.

Hi Noel, just wanted to let you know my updates are updating properly & I haven't noticed any other problems except I tried to download some desk top themes from google's theme reservoir & it did not work. They were panoramic view(.desktopthemes)When I tried to find a way to open them I ran across information saying registry errors were to blame. I'm not in any dire need of these themes I just wanted to let you know what was going on.
I was looking around the internet & ran across the Major Geeks & they recommend registry repair software that they test. I found a couple that if they worked properly, sounded promising.
They were: |MG| Eusing Free Registry Cleaner 3.0.0 Download and
|MG| Registry Mechanic 11.1.0.214 Download
I don't want to cause more problems, but I'd like to know what you'r take is on these programs. Rock-On !

Noel is offline at the moment, so he's either asleep or in the pub! I'm sure he'll get back to you in the morning (be patient whilst the hangover cures!) with his opinions on this.

In the mean time, I just want to say don't use any form of registry cleaners/optimisers. It's very difficult for them to distinguish between useful and useless keys and very often, they will remove keys and values that are crucial for Windows to function. Not only are they crap with what they do, but there is no need to clean or optimise your registry :) You won't see any performance issues and problems with the registry can be addressed manually. If you would like to see what a registry cleaner did to someone's computer recently, take a look at this thread:

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/260383-microsoft-updates-has-gone-crazy.html

It single handedly broke Windows Update :( I'm sure Noel will say something similar, but I just wanted to post in case you get impatient and give it a go whilst he's offline :)

Tom

At 3 am, I'm usually asleep (unlike some people I could mention! :) )

yes, there is NO SUCH THING AS A 'GOOD' REGISTRY CLEANER - they are all, without exception, snake-oil products, designed to produce nice numbers and make the sellers rich.
What they are not capable of doing, is knowing anything about your machine and the software installed - and that knowledge is essential if you are to safely do anything in the registry, let alone a wholesale springclean.

Would you let your mother-in-law into the garage to tidy up while you have the parts of your vintage car laid out on the workbench and floor?

Thanks for the info. I had an idea your reply would read as such & I wasn't going to do anything without hearing from you first. Like I said after the time you spent on my problem I owed you that. I'm also aware the time difference so I dont mind waiting.

:D
