Try booting into the XP CD and installing to the desired partition using full XP format.

If the same error repeats, then boot XP CD select Repair and run chkdsk /f (note space) to check file system.

If repeats, boot into Safe Mode by tapping F8 repeatedly at bootup, run your Anti Virus scan. Then boot into Safe Mode with Networking, download/install Avast free home and accept boot scan after install. Then download/install Spybot S&D and run from Safe Mode with networking.

Now try installation from booted XP CD again.

If fails, download and run the diagnostics for your Hard Drive model from the manufacturer's Support Downloads page.
