Error after install

Ok, so I went through the first part of the Windows 7 installation, then I had to restart. After I restart, it says something about updating the registry, sits there for like 10 minutes then a blue screen pops up. I didn't catch the error the first time but after restarting again, the same blue screen pops up, error 0x0f4, safe mode or not. Then there's this mini-dump thingy at the bottom that goes to 100, then the blue screen goes and the computer restarts. Nothing ever works out perfectly for me :sa:.

Anyone can help?

What installation method are you using there? dvd, usb key, mounted iso image? If burned to disk you may have a frisbee to toss if the burn was bad like something not fully being written to the disk itself. You may have run into a bad blank disk?

Another thing that hamper installing any version of Windows would be any problems seen with the memory installed on the system itself. A bad download, wrong program or bad install of that, bad disk, bad ram, even bad sectors on the hard drive from wear are things to consider.

It was off a USB key. I'm going to try and re-install now.

Ok lets start from the beginning . what ver of win 7, what computer, how much ram, what video, what hard drive, what version BIOS. Can you f12 into the bios? etc

Hey. I got build 7260., Acer aspire 5601, 4gigs ram, integrated video, tried installing on about a 20-odd gig partition of a 80 gig hard drive. Not sure what BIOS version, I can F2 into BIOS. I ran the set-up again and tried the repair tool. Nothing was repaired but it said the problem was "failure while setup is in progress". The 0x0f4 error had i think 0x03 in the bracket to the right which means a process ended unexpectedly (versus a thread).

The "0x0f4" error often comes up with ide drives as well as virtual memory when data isn't correctly being swapped out to the drive like a set of bad sectors. Most of time the best move is starting with a totally fresh primary to work with as well as knowing the drive is in 100% good health along with the memory on the system.

Unfortunately with laptops you don't usually have a lot of options except downloading a diagnostics tool from the drive's own manufacturer if you know which one to run scans on it. As far anything "leaked" you have to be prepared for anything as a rule!

I got it working... not on that hard drive but another one. This thing is sweet! Thanks for the help, I guess it was a hard drive problem.

Ouch! They go at times however.

You may want to invest in a notebook cooling pad if you don't already have one since drives as well as the rest tend to run warmer in laptops/notebooks due to the confined space. At least now you can get the feel of the new Windows!

Yeh. I didn't just get this hard drive. Long story short, this is one of 2 drives I use with this laptop. I won't bother with a cooling pad for this, i'm ready to throw this at a wall. It wouldn't be my money, since technically it isn't my laptop, but its about time this laptop gets replaced anyway. The new Windows feels great! Not a bit of lag! Especially expected it with this new taskbar... only problem is I can't seem to get flash working...

Flash like in flash player for embedded ads on web pages etc. there? Sometimes when you hit just the right page a prompt for installing the Adobe Flash Player comes up. The other thing you will need would be Java runtime you download and install from SUN Microsystems own site for that. java.com: Java + You

On the Adobe download page you'll see the individual items like reader and flash player available by clicking on each one at a time. Adobe - Downloads Look in the center under the "Readers and Players" heading.

there are 2 different version of flash one for IE and 1 for firefox. You just need to download the one for firefox and your all set

The add-ons for Fire Fox are found right on Mozilla's own site at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7

For the Adobe version of Flash Player go to Adobe - Adobe Flash Player

Once there you'll see the dropdown list to select the OS you are running.

Keep an eye out for any Vista updates since those will work if none are seen for 7 at some point(hopefully since laptops see a fast turnover!).

I just got done looking over a Vista laptop with only 1gb of memory?! :shock: That's how it was originally sold and why I was asked to look it over since it was running sssssssslowwwwww.... errrrr then a certain brand of ketchup! At least that one already sees Vista 32/64 updates available.

lol. Heinz . Since the laptop shipped with XP, and the model isn't current, I doubt there will be any vista drivers.I just ran the setup in XP SP2 Compatibility mode, I'll see what happens on the restart.

You're looking at desktops. 5600 is there under notebooks. Installing it under XP SP2 compatibility mode worked... Sound is OK now.

You posted "5601" before not 5600. And I looked in both sections to see what updates as well as which catagory your model fell into.

I'm glad to see the compatibility mode worked out for you anyways. That helped here to see 32bit XP drivers for a tuner card actually work on the 64bit RC!
