Error between IE 9 and WOT

Every time I do a search of the forum & then click on any of the results I get a popup that says IE has stopped working. If I just click on the X, it will continue to the post. Do I need to do something with 'settings' in either IE or WOT? It's just kinda irritating when like earlier I went thru about 20 posts & had to X on each one.

I'd thought about posting to the WOT forum but they don't allow a simple way for me to attach a screenshot for better expanation.

Could be a corrupt explorer.
Uninstall it and reinstall it. Post back to let us know.

Could be, but the errors indicate that wot.dll is crashing, not IE. I believe this is part of a larger security suite, and it may be interesting to remove that instead and see if the problems persist.

This will be a WOT problem, rather then IE. This only happens on this forum? You might try their debugger

Darn, thought the debugger would be the answer but had problem there too. Most likely my fault for something I have wrong. Will attach shots but am wondering if that 'blue circle' in address bar, as seen in my 1st post, is my 1st mistake?

The "blue circle" if clicked on will bring up a notice like this



Either tracking protection or active-X filtering is on, those are IE features, and I am unsure if they would affect WOT.

I'm not a big fan of disabling DEP for an individual file as a fix, as it is a security feature, and does not fix the underlying problem. Have you tried the obvious disabling WOT, confirming correct operation, uninstalling and reinstalling WOT?

okeedokee, just tested with WOT Disabled & had no popup, then Enabled & got the popup. Problem is that I don't feel safe doing online searches without it. I do have Avast Antivirus & I think they have something similar so will try that.
I did go thru an uninstall,re-install of WOT just a few days ago due to a different issue that was then resolved.

Will try out the Avast feature for a bit, then post back with results.

Thanks for the prodding to test the obvious. , sure would have saved me a bunch of work.

I use Avast, and the Web Rep has not caused me any performance issues. The underlying thing is, WOT should work for you with IE. You might rate Seven Forums, and see if that will prevent the problem.

Nope, rating didn't make any difference. Since my last post 4 days ago I changed from DuckDuckGo fro searching & went with WOT Safe Search. It still gives me the safety of WOT without that "IE not responding error". I did however find something else, when I click on a search result listing for this forum, the 'Content blue circle' shows as a 'red shield for a couple seconds. ???? Shot attached.

Also wondering about DEP , (your post 5 days ago), not sure about mine. Am attaching shot from CCleaner of my installed programs. Does it mean I 'don't' have DEP enabled?

Wasn't sure about posting these 2 new questions here but they do kinda go with my IE trouble?

DEP is usually enabled by default for IE in Windows 7. You can see if it is enabled in your IE.

Open IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Settings, scroll down to Security section> See if Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks is checked



I have seen posts of people who have that entry after using certain MS Fix It.

"have seen posts of people who have that entry after using certain MS Fix It." ??, were you referring to my shot? I did do an MS Fix It for something sometime in the last year but don't remember what for. I did do it from the forum so could look back in my CP & find it if need be.

I just checked my IE & Enable memory is checked but the wording is grayed out. It's the only one in the whole that's grayed.

I have a feeling it's your settings in IE that are interfering with WoT. Try opening IE and going to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and click Reset, Apply and OK any prompts.

Close and reopen IE and then go to Tools/Manage Add-ons and re-enable any you need but leave other settings alone.

See how WoT behaves now.

BTW it may be best to upgrade IE9 to IE10 which is now final because WoT is designed for the latest versions of browsers always.

Yes, I was referring to your (Enable DEP) listing.

I believe if you launch IE by right clicking the exe and choosing Run as administrator, either Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks will now be checked, or will be un-greyed out so you can check it. I believe it is said it can interfere with certain extensions so might not be on by default.

If the above does not work, disabling UAC might let you select it. You can then re-enble UAC again. A Guy

Edit: I don't believe that listing is an issue. You appear to have DEP enabled. However, as mentioned, DEP could be interfering with the WOT extension in some way.
