Hi,

This is an urgent question as I have two days to send back the computer if it won't work.

I bought the Asus Zenbook UX21E (Windows 7 64bit on 128Go SSD) and like many others I encountered problems with the wireless card which was inconsistent. The procedure to solve this problem includes the downloading and installing of the newest version of the wireless card driver.

Problem is when trying to install the driver, I get blocked at the beginning with an error code

-5001 : 0x80070002

But no thread related to the Asus Zenbook problems mentioned this issue so I have no idea how to bypass it.

How it went:

- First I noticed the wi-fi problem.
- I connected via ethernet and updated windows. The wi-fi became even more inconsistent.
- I downladed the newest driver and tried to install it. Error code.
- I went to the windows website and applied the procedures linked to this particular error code, automatic and manual. None worked. So i though that it was maybe linked to the windows update.
- I did a factory reset of the system (via the bios and the recovery image). Same error code.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance for you answers.

that error code has to do with windows update,This problem occurs when some files in the update are missing, even though the update is downloaded and extracted successfully.

To fix this problem yourself, remove the download directory, and then visit the update locations again.
  1. Stop the Automatic Updates service. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
    2. Right-click the Automatic Updates service, and then click Stop.
    3. Minimize the Services snap-in.
  2. Rename the SoftwareDistribution directory. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
    2. Type cd %windir%, and then press ENTER.
    3. Type ren SoftwareDistribution SDTemp, and then press ENTER
    4. Type exit, and then press ENTER .

Note When you remove the %windir%\softwaredistribution folder, the history list is erased from the "Review your Updates" section of the Windows Update Web site. This action will not affect the currently installed updates on your computer. Subsequent updates will appear in the history list.
  3. Start the Automatic Updates service. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Maximize the Services snap-in.
    2. Right-click the Automatic Updates service, and then click Start.
    3. Close the Services snap-in window.
  4. Visit the Windows Update Web site, the Microsoft Update Web site, or the WSUS server again, and then download an update.
  5. If you still receive the same errors, verify that you have correctly performed steps 1 through 3.
  6. If you still cannot install the update, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article: 906602 How to troubleshoot Windows Update, Microsoft Update, and Windows Server Update Services installation issues
hope this helps you out

Thanks for your answer itsswayneb but I already followed these steps :

I went to the windows website and applied the procedures linked to this particular error code, automatic and manual.

I don't believe it is linked to windows update, as I restored the system to factory settings and still got the error message. And I didn't have any single problem with the windows updates actually.

in device manager is your device installed correctly? whatyou can do is delete the device and refresh and let windows find your device as it could be a hardware issue

try it
