The following error crops up when I try to install certain items (in this case Rollercoaster Tycoon 3). I had an error with Installshield on Vista with this game on a recent fresh install (though have had no issues before on Vista) and took the opportunity to upgrade.

Interestingly, I cannot install Installshield Engine Update 700 or 701 either (which the game uses) as I get the same error.

This is a clean Win 7 Ultimate X64 install.

Can anyone help? All I'm getting with google is Windows Update errors, mainly relating to XP. I've tried deleting all files in Software Distribution and stopped/restarted the update service and downloaded all updates.

Thanks Cpt Jack, that's somehow fixed the original error, however I now have "installshield has stopped working". I've deleted the installshield folders and reinstalled every installshield (both types) but it's still no go

Any ideas ?

I'm sure I've seen this error documented before, so I'll get digging in the meantime.

Use CC cleaner to make sure that all remnants of Installshield are gone.
Disconnect your A/V and firewall.
Be sure that the program is compatible with Windows 7 Windows Compatibility Center

Make sure all your drivers are up to date in the device manager.
