Solved Error configuring of Windows Update (KB2670838)

Hello sevenforums community,

I want to install the platform update (KB2670838) on my system.
I downloaded the update manually from microsoft website and installed it; so far so good.

Now i need to reboot my system to "activate" the update.
Windows comes to a point where it says "error when configure the windows updates" and it resets every change done so far.

SP1 and the newest graphic driver are installed etc.
I already tried to fix this problem with some suggestion of the microsoft website:

• Microsoft Fit It doesnt work
• Hotfix KB947821

If you want more informations about the system or the log file of WindowsUpdate, just tell me.

Is this on a clean install or an older existing install ?

Click Start and type in the search box
system information
Click on the suggestion or hit the enter key

You should land on the system summery page
On the top left go to edit and Select all
Then Edit again and Copy

Open a reply here and right click and Paste.

Repeat for Components/ Display section on the left column listing.

I would not install this update or go out of your way
Did you read the article AMD has had many issues with this update

Compatibility issues on certain computers that have hybrid video cards


Important Some computers that have a combination of Intel and AMD video cards in a hybrid configuration have drivers installed that are incompatible with this platform update.

After you install this update and then restart the computer, the computer may crash because of these compatibility issues. In this situation, you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:

Note This Stop error includes the "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" text and the Igdpmd64.sys or Igdpmd32.sys file name.

To resolve this issue, you may have to install update 2834140 ("0x00000050" Stop error after you install update 2670838 on a computer that is running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1). Additionally, use the following tables to install the latest compatible drivers for your video card.

I dont think my graphic card is running in a hybrid configuration but im not an expert.

For me this update is necessary because i have some trouble with DirectD3D and it seems like this update is the solution to my problem.

I tried to install it the last 2-3 days multiple times with possible solutions of other websites.
But every single time there is the error message...

Just an inquiry
Best way to clean install now days is manually installing these three updates KB3020369 & KB3125574 & KB3172605 in that order so that is why I asked

And I would guess KB2670838 would be included in KB3125574 which has all updates through April 2016.

Hi,
Keep in mind the combination of updates are only for clean installing win-7
KB3125574 will most likely restart a couple times seeing it's an unofficial sp2 and will notably take the longest to install.

KB3172605 will also ask to restart to finish.

You can if you know how make your own iso
I've never done it this is a tad out of date seeing KB3172605 now contains the newest windows update client.

Hi ThrashZone,

i did not format my whole disk because if i had done it, there wouldnt be an error i think. (so no clean install)
Anyway i tried to install all 3 updates you posted before:

• Update 1: It was already installed on my system.
• Update 2: Installation and configuration without any mistakes
• Update 3: Same as Update 2

Still I had the error with DirectD3D, so i just tried to install my update (KB2670838) with hope that the configuration will work this time.
And wonder, it really does. No error in configuration. And no DirectD3D error anymore.

So it seems like the KB2670838 isnt included in the 2nd update.

But anyway i really thank you very much, wish you a nice day and much luck in your life.

I would imagine there are other updates to install the second update would only go through April 2016
