Error Creating Device Enumerator

I seem to have shot myself in the foot messing about with a Kindle.
Connected it to the USB but no drivers so messed about downloading drivers which didn't work untill discovered portable device driver on the system worked. Rooted & modified the Kindle, great but then found my video cameras won't work.

I've corrupted something but what?
Problem is on W7. I'm dual booting & the Vista system is fine so no hardware issues.
Multiple cameras on different USB ports all affected but all other devices OK.
System restore had no points earlier than the Kindle install so I put the W7 install.exe in compatibility mode for vista & ran an update install. No change.
sfc /scannow finds no errors.
Device manager thinks everything is working & uninstalling & reinstalling drivers didn't help.
USBDeview shows the time the cameras were plugged in but under connected says NO so I copied usbvideo.inf across from Vista. No change.
I'm out of ideas can any one help?

Yea. Looks like a tough one. I googled and found several people with that same error – but no one had a solution. Don’t know if I can help but will have a look and try

Disconnect any USB cam. Look in ControlPanel->Programs and Features
> Do you see any of of drivers listed you said you installed while messing with downloads?” If so, uninstall.
> Are any of your cameras listed in P&F? If so, uninstall them too

In USBDeview, for any and all instance of your cams still there, select it then click File->Uninstall Selected Device

Show all file extensions (makes following instruction easier). File Extensions - Hide or Show - Windows 7 Help Forums

Now let’s test with just one cam (if you have a web cam, I prefer testing with that) What make/model is it?

1. Rename C:\WINDOWS\inf\setupapi.dev.log to C:\WINDOWS\inf\setupapi.dev.log.OLD
   
2. Connect the camera. Just where do see the error message?
3. Zip file C:\WINDOWS\inf\setupapi.dev.log and attach it to your next post

Thanks for the reply & sorry for not responding sooner but I got so frustrated I decided to format & re-install. Needless to say I ran into a whole bunch of other problems. I have a 3TB drive which was handled by W7 as one 1.99TB drive with the remainder as another drive with its own drive letter which was fine & I had not used any of the second drive so it seemed an ideal place to backup my C drive before formatting. However the fresh install gives me one 1.99TB drive & the remainder as Unallocated space which the Disk Management system will not allow to be allocated. Here dual booting is my saviour as in many cases where Microsoft bloody mindedness screws you up "access denied", "you need permission" & all that nonsense just re-boot & do it anyway. So I am rebuilding my system bit by bit. Thanks again for trying to help.
