After reading Thrash Zones reply I am wondering what media are you using and have you thoroughly cleaned the drive before an install for a try??

I did try thoroughly cleaning my drive before installing one of the programs.

As far as the media question I'm afraid you'll have to explain further.
-I've had youtube open so that's flash player. If that's what you mean.

No sorry mate I should have been a little more explicit I meant the Windows OS media - retail OEM or what because if you have a corrupted disk or whatever (very doubtful but possible) then you could try this

I have a retail hard copy of Windows 7 home premium. (You know, the 32bit and 64bit disks that you can install windows from) Hopefully that is what you're looking for this time.

Hum Andrew a bit OT but now I am beginning to think what we are doing here now and if we are going to go down the track of denying responsibility for anything we suggest then I am going to reconsider my participation in anything that recommends any fix involving using on call software. Some may consider that a good thing perhaps and I admit to not being an expert in anything at all but only use such software that I suggest and that I would use myself.

As far as I know using those malware scans (or the use of free software ie Partition Wizard) the person who is being recommended them is the one who is liable for any use of that software because as far as I have ever seen it states "I accept the agreement" or words to that effect at the installing of the software. .
I think the same goes for the tutorials as they are written / devised by individuals whom I consider to be perfectly competent to write them that includes yourself re the CCleaner tutorial.
If we as individuals or any member cannot trust what is suggested then they have to he choice to not to run them

Personally I think your comments are a little draconian because I have yet to have anyone complain to me personally that what I personally or anyone else have suggested has wrecked the machine or OS.
I stand to be corrected and I apologise if I have read this the wrong way.

So after all of this registry scanning, and every scan coming up clean, it's most likely a broken OS and I should try re-installing Windows.
^That is the conclusion that I've reached.

Okay then. I've done a couple clean installs already so this should go without a hitch. I'll do the the re-install in the morning and get back to the thread with an update on whether it is fixed or not.

Uninstalling KB2918614 and rebooting fixes this. Just to help out and prevent you guys from having to reinstall the OS.

I just wanted to thank zerialz for the tip and confirm this worked for my "object already exists" issues trying to install adobe products, ventrillo, and some other programs.

Uninstalling the windows update KB2918614 and rebooting worked yay lol. I really didn't want to reinstall my OS.

I have been having the same problems, not being able to install software apps. I am SO HAPPY to have found this string of conversations. The last suggestion of uninstalling the windows update KB2918614 and rebooting worked wonderfully. I am now able to install the two programs I was desperately trying to get on my computer. BTW, CCleaner was not working for me either.

CCleaner is not intended for these purposes at all.

If registry is holding onto keys blocking program reinstall then a manual search for them can sometimes remedy that scenario. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/179253-registry-editor-find-find-next.html. Be sure to set a System Restore point first.

In this case it appears to be a Windows Update byprofuct, which are one in a million.
