So, yesterday i tried to install windows 8 in dual boot with my existing windows 7.. Unfortunately the installation somehow failed.. Here is the detail..

I tried to install windows 8 in my laptop, HP envy 4..
First of all, here is my disk management screenshot before i installed the windows 8..

Notice that i wanted to install it in W drive..
Fist question, can i install windows 8 in W drive? Notice that W drive is an extended partion from logical c, which my Windows 7 loacated in..

If yes, than move to the next question :p..
If no, how can i make my hard drive partition so it can make another primary partition? I don't want to delete recovery and HP tools partition, since it can help me in the worst scenario.. However, is there a way to delete system partition and make the C as active?

Second question..
So i start windows 8 installation by extracting the windows 8 iso file, and run the setup in the sources folder.. I chose the W drive, and installation started..
However, when it reached the second step (i think it's the preparing file or something, in 60% i guessed), it said that it will restart in 10 seconds and counting.. So i let it restart.. Then my laptop boot into windows 8 loading screen.. The circle keep spinning, until the windows 8 BSOD screen showed up.. Then, my laptop automatically restart and keep looping to the BSOD..
Where did i go wrong exactly?

Thx before.. Cheers..

On Windows Disk Management, you can only have up to 4 maximum primary partitions, and I think you have to install Windows 8 in a primary partition in order for it to work (separate from Windows 7 in the logical drive). If your laptop has an option to burn a factory install discs, you can delete the recovery partition and just use the discs to do a factory reset. Note that this will revert everything (including the original partitions from the factory).

It should install to Logical since you have a Primary boot partiiton for it to update the Win7 boot files as designed.

But I would download the latest Win8 ISO to burn to DVD or write to flash stick and boot the installer to install to the partition you created, formatting it first.

Umm, so you mean i can install windows 8 in W driver despite that W drive is an extended partition from logical C which my windows 7 loacated in?

So i shouldn't run the installation from the source folder? Is that the problem?

Sounds like a prob with installer. Download another ISO and write to flash stick using Universal USB installer or Windows DVD-USB installer tool.

I think it's not the problem..
I installed windows 8 to my desktop with the same installation just fine before..
That time, i installed it from sources>setup to a primary drive, and it works fine..

Now, since i'm ran out of primary drive, i got stucked here.. Any suggestion?

PS : I'm using HP Envy 4 with 32gb ssd with Intel SRT enabled.. See if that help.. And if i ran from sources>setup, all drive come out just fine..

Thanks..

That's the 32gb chip for HD caching, correct? Is hardware accelerations enabled?

Your previous installation was not from bootable flash stick, so it's integrity must be assured. How did you write it?

The partition is also very small, I'd use Partition Wizard CD to resize it to 50 gb at least.

Yes, and hardware accelerations enabled..
I wrote the installation to usb using windows 7 usb/dvd download tool.. I think the problem is the way i wrote to usb.. Any other software to write it?

Yeah, i can resize the partition if i have to..
One other thing, if i messed up with the windows 8 installation, and get into the bsod loop, how can i get boot back to windows 7? Previously, i ran the hp recovery and factory reset.. Is there any other way?

thanks again...

ok, i think i have another clue..
I'm testing my windows recovery usb, and found out that it also can't detect my OS (windows 7)..
The operating system is empty, altough i have windows 7 installed and working perfectly.. System restore also not working even i have enable it and create restore point before..

Now, i'm more confused than ever, any suggestion?

PS : My windows 7 is fine, just testing the recovery usb..

Write the latest Win8 ISO to stick using Universal USB Installer.

How did you write the Repair CD to flash stick? Try running a few Startup Repairs from System Recovery Options on F8 Advanced Boot options menu to see if it finds any problems.

Ive never met a tech enthusiast who will run the bloated HP factory preinstall, the worst load of crapware and duplicate utilties in the industry throttling Win7 from its native instantaneous state. Most all will Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

sorry for the late reply, but i solved it by disabling intel SRT..
Apparently, SRT was the problem at the first place..

Thanks !!
