OK, I had this computer brought to me for another problem which I got fixed (malware). But it keeps erroring out when trying to install SP1 I get the error code 800F0818.

I have applied the System update readiness tool (390Mb download),
I have validated the windows three times three different KB numbers (I don't remember which numbers)
I have run SFC (multiple times and it returns no errors.

I'm about to tear my hair out.

Oh, this error in applying SP1 has been an ongoing issue the first time it failed to install was 7/8/11

Not sure if it is related but SP1 for .Net framework 3.51 KB979916 has also failed.

I searched the KB and found the update, downloaded and tried to install but got the message that this update did not apply.

The SFC failed towards the end - with the following error (among others)

The CheckSUR log shows a problem with the update you mentioned...
Code:
Unavailable repair files:
 servicing\packages\Package_for_KB979916_RTM~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0.mum
 servicing\packages\Package_for_KB979916_RTM~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0.cat

I'll post a fix for the file errors later - and do some research on the registry errors

I've uploaded a file - t01aa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder t01aa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folders inside it (Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Thank you very much, this one has me tearing my hair out.

I have to be gone for a while but I'll get back later.

OK, I've had time to get all this done. attached is the latest CBS folder.

Anxiously awaiting your response. Should I try to install SP1 again?

I tried the install again and it failed....same error code

The CheckSUR report still has the following errors...

Code:
Unavailable repair files:
 servicing\packages\Package_for_KB979916_RTM~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0.mum
 servicing\packages\Package_for_KB979916_RTM~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0.cat
.

...and I just realised that I gave you the wrong files, so it's not surprising :o

I've uploaded a file - t01ab.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder t01ab in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

With any luck that will be clear then.

I don't think it makes any difference, but when I Extract the new folder doesn't have a Manifest folder only "Packages" but two files within that folder.

Here is the latest. I'll try to run SP1 again

Well, I'm not sure what happened, but SP1 doesn't show up in the Updates window, but when I check the update history, it doesn't show success (failed)

So do I download the update manually and try to install it that way?

The CheckSUR scan is now clear :)
It's possible that SP1 is already installed - if you open up
Start : right-click on Computer and select Properties.

What does that show?

Do a manual Scan for Updates - what shows now?

It says Windows 7 Home Premium.

When I go to the Windows Update window it tells me "No important updates" (there are 3 optional updates, but are not relevant to this situation)

When I look at the update history it shows that SP1 failed 7/29/2013 (this was the last time it failed)

When I look at Installed Updates I see no listing for SP1.

Thanks for your help

OK it is now showing up in the update after doing a manual scan. Downloading now. I will post the results later.

Thank you again.

We have success! SP1 is installed!

Well, maybe I was a little premature in calling success..... in the rebooting stage it went to "Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turn off computer."

It's been at this point for some 30 minutes now and hasn't budged. I hope it will get through this soon.

More than an hour later it appears to have just now finished the update.

We have success and now it is bringing in all the other updates that needed SP1 installed first.

Thank you again!
