Error message "No drives found" on boot up after new build & install

Just completed my first build. I have two error messages during the boot sequence that I cannot resolve. The first screen shot during boot is the Asus logo. Next is a black screen that reads:

"JMicron Technologies, PCI Express to SATA Host Controller ROM V1.07.23
Detecting drives; Done; No drives found"

next up is another black screen that reads:

"Marvel 88SE91XX Adapter BIOS version 1.0.0.1029
Initializing...No drives present
PCIe X1 5.0 GB p/s
Mode: CPU AHCI"

It then proceeds to boot up Win 7 with no apparent problems. The SSD is hooked up to the SATA6 G_2 port. Nothing is hooked into the SATA6 E_1 or E_2 ports.

In the BIOS, under the SATA menu, I have the mode set to AHCI.
SATA 6G_1(Gray) is "not present" and the hot plug "disabled."
SATA 6 G_2(Gray) shows M4-CT128M4SSD2(128.0 GB) and hot plug is "enabled."
SATA 3G_3(Blue) is "ATAPI iHAS424 B ATAPI" and hot plug is "enabled."
The SATA6_E1 SATA6_E2 ports are "not present" and "disabled."

Under the Boot menu, Boot Option Priorities: #1 is set to P2: M4-CT128M4SSD2(128.0 GB.) #2 is set to P3: ATAPI iHAS424 B ATAPI. CD/DVD Rom Drive has an expandable arrow which shows, when clicked, Boot Option #1 ATAPI iHAS424 B ATAPI. Hard Drive BBS Priorities is expandable to show "Boot Option #1 M4-CT128M4SSD2 (128.0 GB.)

MOBO: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe
BIOS: Version 4/26/2011 1606 x 64
CPU: Intel i7-2600k
RAM: 16 GB(4X4) Ballistix 240-pin DIMM
SSD: 128GB Crucial m4 2.5"
HDD: none
ODD: Lite-On LightScribe 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive IHAS424-98
VIDEO: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 450
PSU: Antec EA-500D


I hope that is enough information to help someone diagnose the error messages and I greatly appreciate any suggestions and advice.

Unplug it from SATA 6 G_2 & plug it into SATA 3G. The Marvell driver / port is pretty much useless anyway.

Bootup & see if that gets you in. If not you can always reverse it.

I switched to the SATA 3G_5 port and it booted up with the same 2 error messages. Win7 did load as previously. As far as I can tell from the ASUS user guide, the SATA 6G_E1 & E2 (navy blue) ports are the Marvell ports. The SATA 6G_1/2 (gray) ports are for Serial ATA hard disk drives. The Crucial SSD I've installed has a second-generation SATA 6Gb/s interface.

Also in your bios menu is the drive showing up in both of those boot screens?

In the Boot Menu in the BIOS, under boot priority #1 is: "P2: M4-CT128M4SSD2(128.0 GB)." This looks to be correctly identifying my SSD drive. The #2 priority is: "P3: ATAPI iHAS424 B ATAPI" which I'm guessing is my optical drive because I don't know what else is would be.

I don't know what the other boot screen is other than the BIOS EZ Mode where is shows the boot priority at the bottom, which shows M4-CT128M4SSD2(128.0 GB).

Update: I was snooping around in the Advanced tab in the Advanced BIOS and saw that the Marvell Storage Controller is set to "enabled." Also, the JMB Storage Controller is set to "enabled." Going out on a limb, I disabled both of those storage controllers and restarted. The screen displayed the Asus logo first and then went on to boot up Win7 without showing the 2 error message screens.

Does anyone know what the Marvell and JMB Storage Controllers are and if it is ok just to disable them?

Check your manual & see what port the drive is connected to is identified as. If it is not Marvell or JMB you are good to go.

If it is running OK. Speeds OK. Leave it as is.

I'd want to know exactly what SATA controller is running the drives then.

Look in BIOS, study your Manual found on Asus Support Downloads webpage to understand what you lose/gain by using/not using each of those controllers.

P8P67 Deluxe BIOS Detail

I set the Marvell Controller (2 blue headers) to 'disabled' as well to eliminate the bootup error message; will probably do likewise for JMB . . . what/where/why is JMB used on this board? My assumption was that the native Intel controller allowed AHCI setting for the two gray SATA-111 and the four SATA-II white headers; am I incorrect? Again, I do not know what/where/why for JMB. Nice board!
