Solved Error message when renaming folders

Windows 7 64bit, service pack one, fully updated

Whenever I create a new folder in a window and go to rename it, a dialogue box pops up as below



However when clicking on the "try again" button it renames the folder as if nothing was wrong.
How come it's saying it can't find the item when it's showing up in the window where I created it?
This is a pita rather than a major fault, but I know it should rename first time without the error message. Any ideas would be welcome please.

A link reference has gone screwy somewhere... or at least that would seem to be the case.

Does it happen if you try to create a new folder in your root c:\ directory?

In answer to your question, yes just tried that, and the same thing happens if I try to rename a new folder in the location you stated.

Well the reg file in the link provided by Shawn gave me an error that the registry could not be updated as some key or other was in use. I did try the reg file in safe mode but got the same message.
On the premise that asking for help on this fine forum does not preclude one from pursuing a solution on your own I ended up on a Microsoft answers site having followed a thread on the same topic on Overclock.net and downloaded a recommended reg file from - http://cid-fb5a28bc4a1cc9b6.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/Folder%5E_fix%5E_win7%5E_x64/FolderDescriptions.rar.
I can report that this file has cured the problem and I can now rename folders as normal. I report this in the hope it may be of some help to anyone experiencing the same problem. May I just say a very gracious thank you to everyone for pointing me in the right directions

That's great news. I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted.

EDIT:
The REG file you linked to has the same thing minus a bit that I have in the REG file I posted above. The error you got when merging my REG file was to do to access permission for a registry key. I've removed that part on the REG file to allow it run without error now.

Wish that reg file didn't contain every single folder related registry setting.
It would be much nicer to know exactly what affects this.
Glad you are sorted all the same, I just like to know the real answer this is a shotgun blast approach.
