Hi,

I've got a CAD program called 3D Canvas 7 - I've used it in the past but recently when I try to run the program it refuses to start and I get the error message:-

3D Canvas requires that Microsoft Windows Script be installed

As far as I can see Windows Script is installed as part of Windows 7 ?

I tried a fresh install of the very latest version of the above program which is 3D Crafter 9 (really a new program) - but again got the same result.

The only real change to my computer recently is a utility called TuneUp Utilities 2012 - I can't see any indication that it has de-activated the script - but I could be wrong of course.

I've tried a lot of internet searches on Windows 7 Script problems without luck.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Regards
Paul

If the problem started after installing TuneUp Utilities, I suggest you try uninstalling it and test the results. I generally don't recommend 3rd party utilities such as this one because they are mostly nothing more than snake oil and have been know to cause more problems than they cure.

The Tune up utility is probably the problem. Tune up Utility 2012 or programs like it do more damage than good. No one know what such a program does their/there for it difficult to repair what the program has done. Windows 7 does not need a Tune Up program nor does want one. I would recommend removing such a program and go back to a restore point a week or so before it was installed. Then I would do this.

Hopefully that will fix your problem. Get back and let us know.

Hi,

Many thanks for the advice.

As per the messages above I have un-installed TuneUp Utilities 2012 and re-booted the computer.

I ran sfc \scannow with no violations reported.

I was unable to go go to a previous restore point. For quite a long time I have not been able to do restorepoint backups of my system. At present I just do traditional backups of important data to an external HDD.

However the original problem remains.

I have also added my system specs to my profile.

Regards
Paul

You seem to have more than one problem. You can't do restore points. You can't start programs because of script. You are trying to use programs by OrBit. Windows script missing covers a gazillion things way above my head. What script? To give you a idea.

A repair and install could solve your script problems. I don't think we have all the pieces to the puzzle.

Have you had any Windows 7 activation problems.

Hi,

I'll take a look at the things you suggest.

Windows 7 seems very stable and gives few problems other than with the two programs mentioned, and the restorpoint issue.

3D canvas 7 and its companion 3D Crafter, both from Amabilis are the only programs that won't open and ask for Microsoft Windows Script to be installed.

Thanks.

Paul

Hi,

I thought I would try a backup - it now works Ok and a system restorepoint was created. I'm also doing a system image - at least if something goes wrong in the future I have something to go back to even if I still have the Windows Script problem. Why is it all Ok now though ? The backup / restorepoint problem existed before I installed TuneUp Utilities 2012. For me the last Windows that didn't work in a very mysterious way was 3.1 !! :) - I suppose that is why I used a program like TuneUp Utilities.

Paul

I'm glad you got things working. Windows 7 is a great new operating system. It does not work like all the system before it. It works better. All the tweaking we all did with XP and before is not needed. You will also learn the Windows 7 is picky which anti virus programs it likes. A little reminder, CAD programs do like as much ram as you can give them.
Happy computing.

Hi,

Many thanks for your help - I'm going to see if Amabilis will look into the script problem since they should know what the program is looking at when it is executed.

Paul
