HD is 500 gb sata 2 formated. I try to boot from dvd to install the windows but i get pxe-e53 error: no boot filename received. dvd drive is first priority on boot order btw. I know that it tries to boot from lan after skipping all other steps without success but why? dvd drive is fine. it boots the windows xp cd. any ideas? after the pxe-e53 error it shows me windows boot manager with status 0x0000225. i run memtest86+ to check possible problem in ram but showed me no errors. any ideas/suggestions pls??

Welcome ffcg to the windows 7 forum.
One question, is th DVD that windows 7 is on a bootable DVD?
Or is it an upgrade dvd?

Where did you get the windows 7 dvd from?
and what kind of package did it come in?

FFCG. Where did you get the windows 7 dvd?
You say you bought it, If you bought it off the internet from someone who is not an authorized Microsoft reseller, then you might have an illegal copy.

The problem can be caused by a corrupt version of the OS on the DVD.

Download a new copy of Windows 7 from the following site;

Dell Community
(be sure to choose the appropriate version for your system)

In order to use the downloaded version you will need your install key.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS, enable Legacy BIOS, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. We are creating the partition here to mark it Active which overcomes certain install failures.
