Error on installing Windows 7 on separate partition

I'm trying to install Windows 7 Professional on a system with the 2nd hard drive partition.. Windows XP is already installed on the first partition. When I try to install Windows 7 Pro it extracts the files fine but gives me this error on rebooting:
File: \windows\system32\winload.exe
Status: 0xc000000d
The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I've purchased four Win 7 Pro license keys from MS and sucessfully loaded Windows 7 Pro on three computers using the DVD (downloaded from digitalrivers) w/o any problems.

maybe the dvd was scrathed in the las install. Maybe this computer needs a driver the others didnt. Can you download it from DR again?

The DVD looks perfect; no scratches or 'dings.' Immediately after d/l'ing it from digitalrivers I made a second copy (as an archive) and tried that copy as well. Same problem.
I wouldn't think that drivers would be a problem since they're installed AFTER the Windows 7 OS install finishes.

Not sure if but I had a similiar issue when I installed WIN7. Some of the files went to my D: Drive for some reason which is a seperate HD (not Partitioned) > To solve the problem I actually had to disconnect my HD for Win to install. NAfter all went well I just plugged my D: drive in and rebooted. Not sure if this solves your problem but it is some information.

Have you tried booting from the DVD to install? If so, try running installer from XP.

Did you format the partition primary NTFS before running installer from XP? If so, delete formatting and let installer auto-format.

When booting from DVD, select Custom install then Drive Options to delete and format partitiion again before install.

Next try removing all but 2gb of RAM.

Check BIOS setup for SATA controller settings. Try AHCI first, then IDE. Make sure PlugNPlay is enabled. If all fails to here, clear CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Check for newer BIOS version on mobo Support Downloads website.

Do you have a second HDD to install upon? Boot the DVD to format HD before install. If not, try running from XP.

I'm now pretty sure it's a hardware issue with this particular computer. I installed the same 250GB hard drive (partitioned and formatted into two identical partitions using Paragon Partition Manager) in a different computer, installed XP on the first partition and Windows 7 Pro on the second w/o any problem.
I've replaced the HDD in the "problem" computer, after deleting, recreating & formatting the partitions. It's now a question of WHAT hardware <sigh> is causing this issue. I've swapped out the RAM and will try this first, followed (if not successful) by replacing the CD/DVD drive.
As you suggested, gregrocker, I'll visit the MB mfgr's site (Gigabyte) and see if there's a BIOS update. Hadn't thought of that!

Did you check to see if the Win7 would start up when you moved it back to the problem computer?

XP would require a booted CD repair install to reacclimate to the new hardware, but Win7 often will swap out all the drivers and only need a few restarts to be running fine.

If not Paragon Adaptive Restore can be pointed at the drive and get both OS running on the new hardware.

I've done this a dozen times when DVD wouldn't boot and troubleshooting was spinning it's wheels. Takes a lot less time and frustration.

For gregrocker, yes, I can install Windows 7 fine on the "problem computer" so long as I install it on a single (simple) partitioned drive.
It's gotta be something "stupid" I'm doing (or forgetting to do) that's causing this problem. I pulled a new 250GB HDD & installed it in a different computer, formatted it as a single NTFS partition and installed XP Pro on that partition. I then ran Paragon Partition Manager and created a second 100GB partition, again formatting it as NTFS. I booted from the Windows 7 Pro DVD and all went well until the reboot and AGAIN that damned black screen with the error msg:

Status: 0xc000000d
The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
So it's not a hardware problem after all. <Sigh>
Now if I just install Windows 7 Pro on a HDD with a single partition (using the same DVD) it installs perfectly!
I'm fairly 'computer literate' but I'd sure appreciate any insight to this (to me) odd and annoying problem!

Don't format the second partition with your partition manager, instead use Win7 DVD Custom Drive Options to format.

If it still will not install, pull HD out of the problem computer and place it back in the other computer to install Win7.

When you return the newly installed Win7 to problem computer, drivers should switch out with several restart requests. If it won't start, use Paragon Adaptive Restore linked above to make it work on new hardware.

XP should not be affected if you dont' try to start it on the other computer at all. It will not know it ever left problem computer (requires Repair Install from boot otherwise).

I did as you suggested: formatting the second partition using the Win 7 DVD. Got the same error msg installing Win 7 on that partition. Everything goes well until the reboot after which it give me the black screen of death <sigh>

Since this occurs with two different computers and two different HDD's, it's becoming more apparent that it's a software/boot file problem and NOT a hardware or computer-related issue.

The frustrating thing is that I've done several of these dual boot (Win XP Pro and Win 7 Professional) installations in the past w/o any problems. Why now? It's gotta be something I'm forgetting or doing wrong during the partitioning/installation.

Has anyone else got this error while trying to install Win 7 on a seperate partition with XP Pro?

For a quick check, try taking the DVD out of the drive prior to the reboot.

Can you get us a disk managment window picture from within XP?

You only have the one drive, correct? Nothing external?

Why not install Win7 on the second computer to see if it will run on the problem computer?

I have used this approach several times as a last resort and it worked well. The two computers only need to have the same number of cores.

You would need to install XP on the problem computer and leave partition space for Win7. Then be sure not to start XP on the second computer and it will never know it was there.

When you return HD to problem computer, it should swap out all of the drivers with several restart requests. If it works, there is no performance hit at all.

Hi Ted.
I got the same problem.
I tried to install both x64 & x32 Win 7 with following configuration:
750 Gb SATA-II wih IDE drive mode (not AHCI) on Gigabyte P55 M/B, the primary bootable partions ( C: ) - is XP, D - is another (data) partition, I've created another one be means of PowerQuest Partion Manager (old version of 2002).
I tried formatting by Win 7 installer - the same result.
May be the reason of this error message in fact that the partinion is Extended but not a Primary?
I haven't tried to install to a separate HDD yet...
Also I saw in some posts above what can help is to unplug some RAM (up to 2 Gb, I have 4).

SOLVED!

The only thing helps soving this problem.
I set up the option of SATA Controller to AHCI mode in BIOS and on the next restart installation of Windows 7 (x64, Ultimate) contined and finished without any questions.

BTW, XP works on AHCI mode, may be bacause I'd installed native Raid, SCSI, SATA drivers for XP for my M/B before the Win 7 installation.

Yes, your XP probably was able to run in AHCI mode because you had previously loaded the full mobo drivers.

These drivers could also be loaded at the F6 prompt during driver-loading phase of XP Repair Install had they not been loaded earlier.
