Solved Error: partition not found

Yeah so essentially what happened:

Friend convinced me to install Ubuntu.

Gave it a partition.

Got bored of it so I decided to format the partition.

Formatted it as fat 32 (to my knowledge this is what I was meant to do).

Worked a treat got my space back and no issues.

Restarted and then I get an Error: Partition not found and some grub command prompt type thing.

All my stuff is still there and I would love to get it back but if there are no solutions to salvage it then I am OK for reformatting.

Any help would be very much appreciated I don't mind if I can't restore windows as long as there is a way to get my stuff back.

I have the update edition of windows 7 pro x64 and that means I will have to reformat using vista business(I have that too). I also have the Ubuntu 10.10 install.

As I said I just want to get my stuff back (its still on the hard drive). I'm not technophobic I just manage to break stuff.

you would be better off using a live disc of ubuntu running it from the boot up and try to recover your data by moving it to a spare hard drive preferably a portable drive have you the ubuntu disk?

I only have the USB install and an external hard drive to put me stuff on. But i can make a boot CD with it I'm sure

do the disc if you can and boot from it save what data you can recover and reinstall windows on the drive.

Thank you brianzion that was very helpful, Apparently I can now access windows 7 (after Ubuntu install). I really appreciate the help although I have one more question for anyone who knows, How do I remove the Ubuntu partition without repeating this whole episode.

the way i done mine was to delete the partition that has ubuntu on and reboot if windows does not reboot you will have to repair the Master Boot Record (MBR) with the windows 7 installation disc or repair disc if you have made one.

Sorry to bother too much but should I delete both the Ubuntu and the 3.91 gig one that I assume is grub? I don't mean to be so specific but I don't want the problem to happen again.

Also, Should it be deleted to free space or unallocated?

hi again yes delete that as well and when you have reboot dont do anything with the un-allocated partition until you have got windows 7 to boot as normal ok if it wont boot do as i have said look at brinks tutorial ok How to Run a Startup Repair in Windows 7 http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html

hello i have a problem with my laptop it a sony vaio and i have instaled windows ultimate 7 64 bits
the problem is that i did some seetings in the windows 7 and beside i have some bad sectors on the hdd , now when i start the comp it doesnt boot , operatin system not found. In other saying i think i change the boot system from windows and the computer dont see the c: anymore, because i have 2 partition c: and d: and c: it cant be seen and d: but i cant instal on this partition. So my main problem is that i cant boot because i cant see the c: anymore , when i turn on the laptop is coming just operatin system not found , please i need help what shoul i do and how thank you very much i whait for answers on my email [email protected]

I believe I just used the Vista Business disk I had and reformatted it completely and using that i installed my Windows 7 update
