Error when attempting to get WEI

After I upgrade installed 7057 on top of 7000, I got the following error message when attempting to have the system rated for WEI:

Could not measure storage performance.
The disk cannot be accurately assessed while write caching is disabled. Before re-running the Disk assessment, check the Device Manager option to enable write caching.

I attempted to get the write caching enabled, but error message said "Windows could not change the write-caching setting for this device."

Any remedy?

It's a regular Hitachi SATA drive.

Hi guys -- I've already posted about this I think about 2 weeks ago.

This solution seems to work in a lot of cases.

1) INSTALL the INTEL (or manufacturers) chipset and IGNORE the "The driver you are trying to install is older than the current one" - especially if its the Microsoft driver.

2) ensure the correct SATA drivers etc are installed (ICH7/8 etc) and any video acceleration (such as Inter GM945/965 etc etc).

3) re-boot the machine

4) in elevated comand mode (coomand prompt==>run as administrator) run the WEI in command mode

type in Winsat formal.

If this doesn't fix it then "Houston --- We have a problem....."

With builds 7048 / 7057 you can still enable AERO etc even if WEI is broken.

Thanks everybody.
I sent out my post just before going to bed last night, and this morning found all these responses. My replies would have been essentially the same as those by rayjavy.
I guess I would wait for the next build or RTM for solution.

The problem is gone after moving the os system to another hard drive by restoring the backup image. The purpose of this relocation was not for solving this problem but it was somehow resolved. Note that the write-caching is still disabled though.

Hi there

Glad you got yours fixed.

Somethings work whilst others don't and it seems fairly random what "repairs" work -- It DOES seem as if WEI is one of the things they need to fix in subsequent builds.
