Hello, I am attempting to install a Windows Update for Service Pack 1, and cannot do so. I'm running Windows Ultimate x64 bit, and need the Service Pack to run a couple programs I cannot run without it - namely Dolphinx64 netplay.

That being beside the point, I have attempted to run the ISO file downloaded from the Microsoft website and have attempted using the online Windows Update in my system. I also tried manually upgrading my Windows 7 using a x64 Windows 7 ISO install file and selecting "upgrade", but it didn't let me because I "can't upgrade a 64-bit system to a 32-bit system" and "can't upgrade a 32-bit system to a 64-bit system". I got both of these errors at the same time - so that's a dunce.

I also used the System Update Readiness Tool found at :

Fix Windows corruption errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool

and it didn't work either.

As stated in the title, the error code is 80070490. Attached is the CBS zip file asked for in the instructions for posting. I couldn't copy the CBS.log file -- and all the times I attempted to take ownership didn't work. If required, I will try again to get it. For the time being, I used an elevated command prompt to open the CBS log via notepad with a notepad command, and copied all contents into a notepad and included that with my .rar.

I also ran sfc /scannow before uploading this all, so that has been done as well.

Any help is much appreciated, and thank you in advance!

I'm going to be checking on this thread a lot throughout the night until about 3-4 A.M. PST (7 hours or so). So feel free to respond and check back often, I'll be responding a lot!

The install is counterfeit - the Product Key in use is the infamous Lenovo Stolen Key, and activation and validation have been circumvented by RemoveWat, and another Activation Exploit.

You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key

As this is a custom build, not built by myself but of a close friend -- how should I go about obtaining genuine media?

I don't have the money to pay for Windows 7, seeing as it's well over $100. If there's any way I might be able to install the Service Pack 1 anyways, might you enlighten me?

Also, would you enlighten me as to what exactly is the "Lenovo Stolen Key"? I'm curious at this point.

Thank you for your help.

The infamous Lenovo Stolen Key was leaked onto the Internet only a week or so after Windows 7 went 'Release to Manufacture' - i.e. MS signed off on it and gave 'Gold' disks to the major manufacturers so that they could begin production in time for the launch about 12 weeks later.
Lenovo had bythat time produced a few thousand machines with the Key installed - all these machines were recalled, even before sale, and reformatted and a new master created with a new Key.
The Stolen Key has thus never been used on a legitimate install - and cannot possibly be legal. It also fails all tests for validation unless there are Activation Exploits present to circumvent the technical tests applied by WGA and WAT systems. Such hacks reduce both the stability and security of the installation.

Installing SP1 WILL break the hacks in place currently - and the system WILL then show as being non-genuine.

Forum rules prevent assistance to counterfeit installs except to advise the proper methods of getting the system genuine. You should contact your 'friend' - especially if you paid for the OS - for assistance, if you cannot afford the price for a legal copy of Windows.
