Errors installing Microsoft Visual C++

When I tried to install my camera's image transfer software, (a Nikon D5000) it came up with an error reporting

 Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly
'Microsoft.VC80.OpenMP,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a18e3b",processorArchitechture="x86"'.
please refer to Help and Support for more information

while it was trying to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable as part of Nikon Transfer 1.5.0 downloaded from their website, although the same error occurred with the CD which was distributed with the camera.

I googled the error, and it came up with possible RAM failure, which I checked, and no errors were reported by the software (memtest), I then tried to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 which reported the same error and returned another error message:

HRESULT: 0x80070246

which was attached to the bottom of the previous message.

I googled them both and turned up nothing,
any help would be much appreciated.

OK, so I googled around a bit more with limited to no success. However, on installing some new PC software for my phone, I ran into a similar, but different issue.
The software was the Nokia OVI suite 2, and the error it turned up was as follows:

Microsoft.VC90.MCF,version="9.0.3.30729.4148",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitechture="x86",type="win32".

Again, any help is much appreciated. If windows can't install it's own apps I'm going to go back to linux

Hi, Welcome to SF,

Error 1935 most refer to assembly error or cache settings etc. I guess the best thing would be to completely remove the Microsoft VC++ using REVO Uninstaller then reboot then reinstall the VC++ then install your program.

I can't remove it! I installed the application suggested, and it doesn't show up as an installed programme .

I attempted to reinstall it and got the familiar error message, but no luck was had, it is not installed, it would seem. Any suggestions?

How did you attempt to uninstall the program(s)??? Did you go thru programs/features of the control panel or does the program have an uninstaller? If you can, try to remove it thru the control panel. IF/WHEN you get it uninstalled, make sure all the updates have been installed.

IF you feel comfortable editing the system registry, you can manually delete entries, but this in no way says you'll get them all.

What version of the .Net framework do you have installed? (To find out, go to the control panel, program features. It should be listed here). Please, also look in the event viewer, application log and note any errors and/or warnings.

It appears, from what I see in google that it MAY be a .net framework problem. Take a look at the links I provided. They both give instructions as to how to fix the problem.

It appears, from what I see in google that it MAY be a .net framework problem. Take a look at the links I provided. They both give instructions as to how to fix the problem.

It might has to do something with .NET but the problem is .NET Frameworks up to 3.5 is inbuild in Windows 7 so the two thing we can do would be to

Run System File Checker

Start > Run > CMD > Right Click and Run as administrator > SFC/ SCANNOW

OR

Repair Install

I tried running SFC /SCANNOW but it only returns the following

"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

and, looking at my installed applications, I couldn't see any .NET entries.
I'm stumped, and I don't really want to have to do a sytem repair

You couldn't find it there because it a OS Component.

ok, well looking at it, it seems that an OS repair is all thats left to try, really. Are there any risks of data loss doing this? Should I get ready to reinstall all my apps etc?
