errors on update ox80073712

Have had issues for months with updates - which reading online seems quite common.
tried to install adobe pdf which has failed due to this error ox80073712 although they also add their error 1935.
adobe suggest running scannow from elevated command prompt which on my machine is also failing so i can move forward on this.

bought the laptop with win 7 already installed and do not have a disc to reinstall.

anyone else been in this scenario ?

have spybot which keeps finding some registry problem which may or may not be relevant.

Considering there's over a billion installs of Windows, the failure rate is actually pretty low
The 0x80073712 error is a reasonably common one - but badly documented.

The problem here is whether this is actually a Windows problem, or an Adobe problem.
