eSATA drive not detected--can CrystalDiskInfo damage an eSATA drive

I plugged in my eSATA drive while CrystalDiskInfo was running and the computer froze. There was no way to regain control of the computer so I restarted.

So now this eSATA drive is not recognized by the computer. The eSATA drive works in another computer.

What's really weird is that another eSATA drive I have works in the computer where the crash happened.

I've tried uninstalling all drivers (both hidden and visible) in Device Manager that relate to the drive.

The eSATA drive also has a USB 2 connection, and that still works fine in both computers.

Hi,

Its unlikely to be the software. The fact that your other eSATA drive works fine, points to a connection issue on the first one. Have you tried swapping the cables?

Golden

I tried another cable. Same thing happens: drive is not recognized in BIOS. Windows will not boot if drive is connected. If I connect drive after booting windows, the drive spins up, an attempt is made to install driver, but then message says "Drive disconnected".

Hi,

Did you try and reinstall the driver?

Quite a bizarre problem :

- the disk sounds fine since another PC can see it
- the eSATA port works fine since you can see a different eSATA disk in it

Golden
