ESET NOD32-update options..

Shall i set NOD32 to update on the wait until next scheduled time (every 60 mins) or soon as possible? i was thinking when pc is off through an update and when i next go on, it won't update for an hour on the next scheduled time option? So what do you have yours set to?

Next scheduled. More often just makes more work on their servers and our machines making it harder to log on to them

ah ok, so does it check for updates as soon as you log in or does it check for updates an hour after you logged in?

No idea. The longest it could be is 60 mins. Most AV's only check daily

It's pretty rare that a 60 minute (maximum) delay in getting the latest updates truly matters.

It's pretty common that having it update the second you log on (or something comparable) causes unnecessary slowdowns and delays, especially if you also have it set to scan startup files after each update.

Under most circumstances, I'd just let it stick to its hourly schedule.

If you're using it in some highly secure environment where you're constantly under intentional targeted attack, you might want one of the other options, and you might want to set the updates for something more frequent like every 30 minutes, too. But if you're in one of those environments, you're probably not asking here.

You'll probably find it will update after logging on, my machines are shut down for the night and booting up in the morning NOD32 does it set up and quite often it will bring the box up to say it has updated the def files.

I haven't noticed any slow down with the way it works like this so I wouldn't worry if you have it set at the defaults you should be well covered right from the start

ok cheers guys. i have left it set to the default setting. I am fussy on my anti virus options and features. iv'e had a couple lately. avast home and avira free. avast was ok but the features lacked and didn't have a good interface, avira webshield slowed my internet down. So i decided to gat a paid version this time and all looking good. Best one iv'e used so far, works great on windows 7.
