ESET questions

Ok, my main question is this. I know that W7 has a compatibility mode, so would I be able to get ESET NOD32 to work 100% w/ windows 7? If so could someone give me instructions (don't have to be detailed, just point me to how to get in compatibility mode for ESET). I'm wondering because I like ESET and I have NOD32 sitting around but when I installed it normally it said not fully compatible.

And as a secondary question, would it be a good idea to get ESET smart security 4 and use it w/ W7 for a year and then get a good W7 antivirus (should be out by then), or just wait a few months and get a W7 antivirus once one comes out instead of ESET smart security 4?

I want to stick w/ ESET because I always have good experiences with their antivirus. Much better than kasperky atleast. (not to mention I don't want to use a beta as my AV for too long)

"Not fully compatible" is a big problem and I think that compatibility mode will not work (for me it didn't) so I downloaded avast. I'm satisfied with it for now...

What version of NOD32 are you have compatibility issues with?

Kusiobache, I can confirm to you that v4.0 is working flawlessly under Windows 7 64bit and its safe to assume that it works flawlessly under the 32bit interface as well.

So you should go ahead and buy yourself a copy of ESET NOD32 Smart Security 4.0, I was lucky enough to get employee discount on it through BestBuy. It pays to know somebody that works there :)

+Rep me if I helped you :)

Yeah, but I'm debating on whether to get SS4 or to wait for a W7 specific AV to come out...

I m running Eset Smart Security 4.0.417 on win 7 64bit and never had any problems with it. IMHO, its 100% compatible. Look no further. Go for ESS. If you need more about it, look here.

Yeah, but I'm debating on whether to get SS4 or to wait for a W7 specific AV to come out...

If you buy Smart Security 4 and they release something afterwards that's more compatible (Which I doubt they will do, since 4 is already fully compatible) You can just pick up the phone, give them a call and tell them you bought a license for 4 and would like an upgrade/discount for 5 or whatever version they'd have and they will do it for free.

You can do that with most programs and hardware. I got a $50 + 25% discount on my AIO Lexmark. I owned an old one that wasn't compatible and they said no problems, we'll ship you this new kind. Ended up spending only $48 on it.

ESET Smart security and AntiVirus V4 works PERFECTLY on windows 7 without compatibility mode. Been using it for about a month now, no problems. Easy on resources, while still detecting everything. I HIGHLY recommend it!

That's not completely true.

The anti virus portion works without issue. The firewall portion of Smart Security does not when it comes to Homegroup and the use of shared folders on a local network.

There have been a number of posts in my thread about ESS about this. The firewall portion of ESS is NOT Windows 7 compatible yet.

Now, if you don't have another computer on your network and don't share any folders, then it seems to work just fine though.

Define - "easy on resources"? Compared to what? And SS v4 - still has issues...AV seesm to be okay.

For my first build of Win 7 RTM - I went with 3.0.384 and despite the message about not being fully compatible - it's running perfectly.

I want to go to v4 (AV only) but I am still a bit gunshy on the resources and if it's working flawlessly or not.

Cheers!

Well, it uses 40Mb of RAM if you have over 25% of your RAM free. But the less RAM you have free, the lower RAM it uses.
Ive had ESET NOD32 use less than a half of a MB after a fresh-reboot on a computer made in 1998 running windows xp.
And you CANNOT beat its CPU usage. It OWNS every other antivirus in that..

I can confirm that. I had a problem earlier getting my laptop to pick up my movies from my main computer and the computer would show up in the network and vanish and it wont be accessible. Disabling the Firewall cleared the problem.

It might be a setting or something that needs to be modified or cleared but I'll keep checking.

In eset smart security ver 4.x you need to define the zone as trusted ( or the individual machines) in the advanced setup firewall menu

And yes ive allowed sharing in the network type chooser.
I will try to change it and see what happens? Any other settings?

For those who has a lot of issue with eset firewall, they should switch to eset nod32 antivirus.

Sure, but not the same thing.

ESS - Anti virus with firewall.
