Ethernet 1st?

Hi,

On my lap running W7, despite having Ethernet connected, it connects with WiFi 1st. Have to disconnect manually with WiFi to get connected with Ethernet.

Is it possible to have WiFi 2nd.....?

Hello, Go to network/properties/change adaptor settings.
Take note of the name of your LAN(Ethernet) and the WiFi connection.
At the top of the Network connections page you need to click on Advanced/Advanced Settings.
In the Connections window Highlight and move to the top the connection you want as priority and the second as the next in priority.

Thanks for responding, did as you recommended, but still get WiFi 1st. Have to tap on Fn + F2 keys to turn it OFF.

The issue is that I lose my BT too, when WiFi is turned off manually......

Hi, OK 3 things to go through.
1. and I am not being impolite, are you sure you had the adapter names correct. Perhaps you only have 2 or 3 adaptors.
By the way did you need to move the priorities from my last post.
2. In device manager under "adapter settings" a) is it all compressed with no issues b) are the Drivers Microsoft or Dell.
3.Go back to Change adaptor settings, right click the LAN connection and click on "Disable" wait a few seconds to take effect now full shut down of the laptop wait 10 seconds and re-boot. Go back to the LAN connection, right click and "enable".
Now try.

Hi,

You can always be impolite, none issues...:)

1. 3 adapters....Local Area, Wireless and Remote access.

2. All compressed, with Microsoft drivers.

3. Disabled, shut down, powered on, enabled, rebooted, still the same.


In Network and Sharing >Access type > Connections > LAN is up and Wireless below.

Network is Public but Name is the same for both......

Hi,
One thing I do like about my meager laptop is it has a wifi switch on the left bottom corner to turn it on or off :)
Does yours have that you've ever noticed ?

Are your adaptor settings set to Auto configure or have you manually set up your network.
i.e. have you allocated ip numbers or is set to Auto. (LAN and WiFi)

It has those media buttons on the front.....

The only thing I don't like about what we have discovered so far is the Microsoft drivers.
This means that an Update has replaced the Dell drivers.
I don't think they are faulty as you have connection however it is possible.
Go to the Dell website for your lappy and see if there are younger drivers available for LAN and WiFi.
Then install and re-boot.
Then go "Devices and Printers"/left click on your xxx-pc then right click and find "Device Installation Settings" then fill in the dot "Never Install Driver Software from Windows Update" Save.
