ethernet adapter problem error 651

I have a desktop of dell with intel pentium. I just took a net connection for that but when i connect my modem it says ethernet cable not connected.when i checked the details on the ethernet adapter it says manufacturer unknown and device type other device.how can i solve this?

Some clarification here.....Were you able to connect to the internet?

Have you tried uninstalling the device driver from Device Manager then reinstall it? A current ethernet driver is advisable.

I wish i could connect to internet but am not.....but i will try this uninstalling and reinstalling it

I tried it but it isnt helping,it says device drivers not found

Thanks for giving it a try. From the computer that you are using and connected to the internet, you may go to Dell Support site and download the driver for your ethernet adapter. Transfer the downloaded file into a USB flash drive then transfer and install the driver into the problem computer.

What is the exact Model Number of your Computer ? ...


Which Drivers have you tried to Install ? ....

Well the dell web is not helping either...

It does not let me install any drivers and as i do not know the manufacturer of my ethernet adapter i do not know which drivers to download

Please download and install Unknown Device Indentifier, post screen capture of the Devices and we'll help you find the correct ethernet driver for your computer.

or.... Model and Service Tag of your Dell computer is also helpful as maxie said.
