I have a HP pavilion dv9917cl laptop. Nvidia Geforce 7150M/630M
Integrated ethernet adapter, Nforce 630M.

Updated to Windows 7 32-bit from Vista 32-bit, custom (start from scratch) install.

Initially my ethernet adapter showed up in Device Manager as Nforce Networking Controller, not working properly with a code 10 error. Windows update provided a chipset download, where I manually picked out and installed the ethernet adapter driver (Browse for driver -> let me manual pick -> Have disk -> )

So now in Device Manager my ethernet adapter shows up fine, wired LAN connection shows up in Network Connections etc.

EXCEPT, now no matter what I always get "No Network Access" or "No Internet Access" no matter where I plug in my ethernet cable. Of further interest is this: my IP, DNS, DHCP information all shows up under "details" from the LAN wired connection properties, but My physical address is 00-00-00-00-00-00.

Wireless is working 100% okay. I need to be able to use wired, however, for a number of reasons.

I nabbed drivers off the HP website, the Vista 32-bit drivers for the nvidia chipset, but there was no change.

My biggest question: is this a driver problem? or Windows 7?

Please help!

You linked me to 64-bit drivers, but that's okay i found 32-bit ones. Installed easily, but the same problem remains...

The link Zidane24 linked you to is also for 32 bit. She knows her drivers. I looked up your notebook and Hp doesn't list any Windows seven drivers only Vista. Which you could try and install in compatibility mode http://www.sevenforums.com/ Hope this or the above helps. If either does please post back so we can list this as resolved for others. ...anyhow I haven't got a chance to look back to this thread (over 100 subscribed threads a day gets a little crazy...)

From what I can guess the driver I linked to doesn't work...Did you install the driver in compatibility mode and run as an administrator

Thought I'd throw in the solution that worked for me. What follows is a copy of from the Microsoft forum: default gateway not available in windows 7

Hello Guys. I found the solve on a Nvidia forum. Its works perfect for me.

This solution was found in another forum. And it solved the problem for me. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64. And the constant network disconnects was getting bad, especially during steady downloading.

What you need is the nVidia Vista v15.25 (32bit or 64bit) motherboard driver.
64bit URL: NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.25 WHQL
32bit URL: NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.25 WHQL

I ran into a problem immediately when the driver installer did not display the Ethernet menu item.
I had to do the following to get this fix to work. Note that it applies to the Win7 64bit version:
1) Uninstall any Nvidia Ethernet drivers.
-- Reboot.
--the Windows 7 default ethernet drivers get installed in their place
--verify and note down the filename of the Network Adapter driver filename that Windows 7 uses.
2) Do the following:
--go to the location where the Nvidia installer unzipped the v15.25 files on your hardrive. Under the Ethernet folder, find the v15.25 Ethernet driver file "nvmfdx64.sys" (file version 1.0.1.6789) and rename it to the Windows 7 x64 default Ethernet driver filename "nvm62x64.sys".
--copy nvm62x64.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers (archive the old default file first).

Reboot.

This has worked perfectly for me. No loss in any functionality that I'm aware of, and my network is now stable again.
