Hello everyone and I hope you and your families are well.

I need advice/help as my PC my son uses for his homelearning has decided to mess up during the current situation, we depend on the pc and really dont want to format.
Basically a couple days ago we turned the PC on and were unable to connect to the internet.
I have been using the same usb Wireless adapter for the last 10years and obviously checked that first and it was not lighting up nor visible in the utility.
I have a brandew wireless usb adapter which I also tried but no joy - both adapters work fine on my 1998 xp laptop :)
Turns out in the network and sharing window connections tab there are not any connections! looked in device manager and saw other device with yellow symbol.
Right clicking I can notify it has 8168 in the id, after googling it I found thats the driver. I have downloaded the driver and many more but am unable to install
as I get errors about Realnetwork controller not found if deep sleep mode is on plug in cable.

I tried to manually install the driver but get the same error, have also tried a battery remove no joy.

I tried plugging in a ethernet connection directly from my router also but no joy, the light on back of the pc does come on when the ethernet is plugged.

My son downloaded netadapter and tried that however I am not sure if he has removed any vital settings eg winsock,ipv4 as he selected all and it reset everything. :s. I then tried via cmd- ip config reset and netsch etc but nothing has worked.

I also tried unistalling the ethernet controller from from device manager and upon restart it comes back under other device, also in device manager under network adapters I am unable to see any Realtek family ethernet controllers nor WLAN.

I hope someone can help soon

Regards

R

Just to confirm. You uninstalled the driver and reinstalled the driver? The latest driver?

What was the last thing done on the computer that may have caused this?

Go to the start orb (bottom left) in search type in cmd. Right click cmd.exe and open as administrator. Now in command type in SFC /scannow.

Morning all and thanks for the replies, ran SFC scanow and get options?
No major changes to cause the problem, and I THINK I am installing the right driver. I tried atleast 20 different realtek drivers but nothing.
No system restore point also :(
Under windows diagnostics the error states windows did not detect a installed network adapter.

What does that mean?

You ran
Code:
sfc /scannow
?

Note the space after sfc.

Hi thanks for responding, sorry SFC scan did run and results were there was not any integrity violations.
Ok I uninstalled Commodo and have found the correct driver from the motherboard website. I am meant to have RTL8111E driver. I have downloaded and am still having issues to install as I still get the if deep sleep mode is on plug in cable error.

I just tried to manually install again via device manager and right clicking the ethernet controller and picking network adapter from the let me pick menu. I clicked all the drivers which vary from 2009- 2018 and none work. Instead this time round I get error saying this operation requires a interactive window station

What exactly is the make and model of the computer you're working on? IS this an internal ethernet adapter or internal WiFi adapter or an external USB WiFi adapter? If it's an external WiFi adapter, what is the make and model of it?

You said something about deep sleep. Is that the error message you're getting or are you using sleep or hibernation mode? If so, don't use those low power modes. They are very problematic.

You asked if someone can get on your computer. It's possible with Team Viewer, but you need an Internet connection. LOL

Did you run Microsoft's Network troubleshooter and peruse the logs it generates?

I'd be considering a Repair Install at this point!
I can help you with Win7 iso if needed.

Hi F22, lol @ teamviewer. Ok the PC I believe was a build not from a shop and from the inside I can read Asrock G41MH/usb3 .I tried the ones you sent and am getting the same error about the realtek network controller was not found, if deep sleep mode is enabled plug in cable.
I dont even know what this sleep mode is, in regards to power settings I dont have iitl set to sleep or hibernate etc. I dont think my PC has wirless built in hence me using usb network adapters. I use Sitecom 300n and have the drivers installed in the PC but on the bottom right by the site com wireless utility it says WLAN not exist.
The PC does have a ethernet at the back and I only plugged my ethernet in to see if that would work but it never, the lights do flash so I know that ethernet port on the PC is working.

Hi, slight progress. Removing memory seemed to have done something as when I installed the driver it has now installed but still has the yellow symbol.

Before it was ethernet controller but now in device manager it comes up as Realtek RTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)

Error is code 52, cannot verify the digital signiture for the drivers required.
I tried manually directing the install to the folder but nothing worked.
Thanks for the replies, keeping me busy during this time.

These driver packages I download do they contain all needed or do i have to obtain WLAN drivers and NIC separate? Was thinking of throwing the PC out the window tomorrow

Hi Rohan,

Comments

The Gigabyte driver is for the Ethernet cable - the onboard pci-e card
Your 10 year old USB wireless dongle is likely only usb2 compatible
you should have at least 2 entries in the network drivers dropdown menu
is there an Other drivers entry

What is the make/model of the dongle

please run this tool IGNORE the title it will provide more info
