I'm on a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit. I have tried rebuilding the index without including IE history and still keep getting this error. Googling hasn't turned up much. Is this error benign? How can I get indexing to read IE history again?

It sort of looks like a permissions issue but not sure. This is from technet on the error code.

Is there more than one user?



The account that is being used to access the page does not have access to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC registry key.

This is the only user on my machine and it is an admin. I did have a windows.old folder and thought search was trying to access the old user's history, but I deleted windows.old, rebuilt the index, and the error still comes up.

EDIT: Under Indexing options, I went through Modify>Show All Locations and found out even though I had initially unchecked Internet Explorer History, it was only checked off for my user and not for NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. I unchecked NT AUTHORITY and we'll see if the above error crops up again.

So far, still no error after the rebuild. Looks like I needed to make sure the NT AUTHORITY history was unchecked.

Does every default Windows 7 installation have the NT AUTHORITY IE history as an indexing option? I have another box with nearly the same specs with Win7 64 bit installed that isn't getting event 3036 in event viewer.

I am 100% sure you saved me from many late night hours of troubleshooting my system. After a system repair my system was having all sorts of problems popping up in Event Viewer, and this one was giving me a headache.
