Event Log Service is Missing??

The whole problem stems from the fact that my Office 2007 icons have magically disappeared, so I tried to run the Office diagnostic tool. But when I did, it mentioned an error about the event log service. I tried to go see if it was started or not, but when I did I realized that it wasn't even there. All of the registry values are present and correct so I don't know what the problem is. Any help is greatly appreciated!

There is no Event Log Service that I'm aware of, certainly not on my Win 7 Pro X64 system.

What was the exact error message?

Well I feel really dumb, it was called Windows Event Log, not Event Log. Oh boy. But anyways, when I try to start the service I get error code 4201.

Same problem happened to lots of folks on Vista. Problem turned out to be lost/corrupted/missing registry access permissions.
