Good Day Folks:

Today when I attempted to reinstall my MS Office Home and Student copy I get a message informing me that I have exceeded my limit for reinstallation. The problem is that this application has only been installed on one computer (the one I'm using now) and, according to MS this prouct, if it is used on only one computer, is subject to unlimited reinstalls. When attempting to reinstall it does not even load let alone get to the license key activation window. I have contacted Microsoft and they say they can fix the problem for a fee of $99.00. Fat Chance! This product was bought and paid for at their on-line store and if they think they can stiff me for another charge they are sadly mistaken. I can, and will, download this program for free and if they make an issue of it I have a copy of the purchase agreement.
Since I have no intention of wandering through their labyrinth of departments to try to resolve this, I'm hoping one of you good folks may be able to provide a solution.

Regards
Powell Lucas

This the first case I've heard about limit installations for MS Office. I know other software like games have limits, I've run into that myself, but a simple chat session and a quick flip of the switch and bingo...all good. I did have to go through all the red tape of proving my copy...once done, I was good to go.

Sorry, I don't have anything useful for you...very strange indeed.

When you called them did you advise them that you had a copy of the purchase agreement and state that they are required under Federal Law to hold up their end of the agreement?

The law states that the seller is obligated to follow what has been set out in a legal and binding document (purchase agreement) If you can suitably prove that your the owner of the licence and the product is being installed on the same machine you can ask to speak to the department manager and advise him of the poor quality service that you have been provided with and state that they are breaking the law by refusing to honor the legal agreement.

Thanks for your reply. Yes the rep was told that I had a purchased copy and that they were obligated to provide the service and he e-mailed me a couple of suggestions which applied only to network servers. They did not refuse to provide the service, but only if I wanted to pay for it. However, I'm not done with them as yet.

Thanks. My lawyer has advised me to give them one more try tomorrow and if that doesn't work the letter he sends to Microsoft Canada will catch their attention.

Well, well, well, will miracles never end! Just after My last reply to Iroro I opened my mail and lo and behold there was a link to the application that worked. I guess after reading them chapter and verse of the law here in Canada and the Province of Alberta, they finally got the message. Many thanks for all support from you good people.
Best Regards

P.S. This is a good example as to why I don't waste my time chasing down solutions to most MS problems. I simply reinstall my O/S (from my own disk) I spent nearly 8 hours of my time trying to resolve this issue. I can reinstall my O/S and all my essential services in under 3 hours and the longest part of that is waiting for all the updates to download and install. In this case, the reinstall was required because my computer was very unstable. When I reinstalled the O/S this time I did not let that piece of junk IE 9 load and all the instability is gone by running IE8.

It sounds to me like you got the wrong rep. I've called M$ because I supposedly exceded installations of Office H&S 2007 and all they did was ask me it it was installed on any other computers. When I said no (which was true, btw), they cleared all the previous installations.
