Excel 2007 error: There was a problem sending the command

I have very strange problem which I have never seen before. I just can`t open some of my .xls files by clicking on the file icon on the desktop. Trying to do that I always getting one annoying error:”There was a problem sending the command to the program”. Curiously, if I open the same file under File-Open – it works without troubles. So, I am confused and have no idea how to fix it.
I heard that this problem occur typically with Word documents, but no Excel. Appears I was wrong.
Maybe anyone have an advice for me how to solve it?

Does double-clicking the file in Documents open it properly? If so could be the file or shortcut on the Desktop is faulty. Also might try re-associating the .xls format with Excel.
