I was recently upgraded to Windows 7 and Office 2010. Under my old version of Windows XP & Office XP/07, when I received an emailed spreadsheet & made adjustments to it, I was able to save it directly over the old emailed file. Now when I make any changes I am asked to save a copy of the file & to save it elsewhere on my computer & cannot save it directly over the original emailed spreadsheet.
Any ideas on how to get this old feature back? I'm sure it's just a matter of ticking some option off.
Thanks.

Are you opening the spreadsheet directly from an attachment in your email program? If so, what email program are you using?

I'm using Office Standard 2010 & yes, I'm opening the spreadsheet from the emailed attachment. This used to work just peachy.

So, you are using Outlook? Your answer didn't really specify the email program you are using.

Since you are using Outlook 2010, you can't open and save them directly back. That was removed for at least two reasons: because the securetemp directory is deleted when Outlook closes, and because users couldn't find the saved file. There are quite a few threads about it - just google around a bit and you'll find them.

So, you have two choices. You can use a different email application that does allow attachments to be opened and saved back to the original email, or you get used to saving the attachment, editing it, and then adding it to your new/forwarded email.

Ok. Thanks for the replies. It's too bad as it was easier to fix any errors & send them back without all the extra steps.
:D
