Excel 97 display distorted in Win7

I've got 3 Windows 7 netbooks & 1 Win 7 laptop. When installing Office 97 on them I get mixed results. All looks fine during the installation. But once the initial reboot happens, the cells in the Excel sheets are more square and compact that the usual cells (see screenshot) . On one of the netbooks it looks normal. On the laptop it looked normal for years until I had to do a reformat and reinstall (using the factory recovery app). Now its distorted in the same way as the 2 netbooks.

Any idea whats going on and how to fix it? BTW upgrading to a later version of Office is not an option.

Office 2003 is the oldest version that is officially supported by Win 7. You are going to have to bite the bullet and get a later edition. Or use the free Open Office suite of programs that are compatible and comparable to MS Office.
