EXCEL Sort sequence in Foreign Lamguage

Hi all

Seem to have an error when trying to sort data in excel -- I've installed the IS (Icelandic) language pack both on W7 and Office 2010 --no prob but when I sort I get the standard English sequence rather than the sequence : A Á B C D Ð E É F G H I Í J K L M N O Ó P Q R S T U Ú V W X Y Ý Z Þ Æ Ö


Anybody else having SORT problems with EXCEL using different languages installed as a LANGUAGE PACK.

(Note EXCEL works fine if installed in the same language that the base WINDOWS install uses -for example Spanish EXCEL sorts perfectly on Spanish W7).

Same problem in Ms Office 2007 and 2010 (32 bit version) running on W7 Ultimate X-86.

Hi Jimbo,

Isn't the sort algorithm based on the unicode values of the characters? The standard A-Z characters have lower values than accented ones, and thus come before them when sorting alphabetically.

Did you also set the editing language preferences in Excel Options:
