Excluding from system image

Is there is 3rd party system imager that will allow me to exclude certain folders from my system image? I've done a few searches but would like a few recommendations first.

After doing much more searching it seems Acronis True Image Home 2010 is the best option.

No, few less features. But many here use it and love it. Try it, and then buy something else if not satisfied.

I'm having a bit of a problem, when I exclude a folder with 137Gb it only takes my image size down 60ish Gb. I have 274Gb used and the image is 219Gb. I'll check the paragon forums if there are any.

Yeah that is my problem, I'm trying to exclude 202GB of my 274GB but it's still taking 219GB for the image?

You must be copying something that you do not realize. The program is new for you, may take time for you to know how to use it in the way you want. Took me time to get use to it. I had problems making my first copy.

That's what I'm thinking, I must be setting the exclusion filters wrong.

Edit: I just noticed that the program automatically puts the \ in backwards, doesn't seem to change anything with the correct \

I am not able to help you with that. I just checked that I wanted a copy of my c drive. We have someone here (he suggested Paragon to me) who uses it all the time. I will contact him. So check in now and then, you will be helped, my friend.

I think i found the problem, I found this on the support forums for paragon but it seems to be refering to acronis. I think that's talking about a full system backup and that is what I'm trying to do, just excluding a few folders.

With ATI11, one can specify masks to to exclude files from a disk/partition backup. It's an added feature that some folks asked for.

The user guide has some instructions on use:

for example:
"Source Files Exclusion

You can apply custom filters, using the common Windows wildcard characters. For example, to exclude all files with extension .bmp, add *.bmp mask."

This suggests that driveletter:\dirname\*.* would be an appropriate format for an exclusion mask. However, I think that one cannot actually specify directories, only file masks when doing full disk/partition images. One can specify masks that include directory names (with or without wildcards) when doing a Mydata backup but not when doing a disk/partition backup.

Thanks for all your help but it seems I'll just have to move those folders onto an external drive while I do the full backup.
