Solved Expand a Partition

I am trying to extend a partition. Here is my Disk Management. I have a feeling this can't be done. I am wanting to extend F and shrink G. When I shrink G the unallocated part in on the right of G and thus I can not extend F. Is there anyway to do this other than formatting and making the sizes I want? This is my backup disk so it would be no big deal to format, but I would like to avoid if possible.

Hiya Jim -

Use free Partition Wizard bootable CD: How to Move/Resize Partition with partition manager? Partition Wizard Move/Resize Partition Video Help.

Boot CD, rightclick on G to Resize, slide left border to the right by as much space as you want to free up, click OK.

Next rightclick on F to Resize, slide right border to right to take up the space you freed, click OK, then Apply both steps.

Done.

Hi Greg -- The Partition Wizard bootbable CD worked fine. I have a question for you. Before I posted my question on here, I used Partition Wizard to try and do it, but no go. I did not use the bootable CD but just the regular program. I assume you have to use the CD. What I am wondering is what does the regular program do and why do they even have it? Thanks,

Jim -

Like all other Partition Managers besides Disk Mgmt and PW Boot disk, PW Home Edition can fail. I believe it has to do with saving the changes made until it can reboot to apply them. This apparently is less stable than directly applying the changes in Boot Mode. I have never seen PW boot disk fail but have seen most others besides Disk Mgmt fail. I consider it the most valuable tool we use here.
