Expand C partition

I had a 60 gb c drive, and the remainder of a 500 gb hd as d partition

I shrunk d from 400+ gb to 200+ gb, but the remaing 200gb is showing as unallocated space. I want to expand parition c to include the unallocated space, but I don't know how. Can someone help me?

It had C; partition, then D partiton, then unallocated volume. According to the tutorial, all I can do is extend the d partion into allocated, which i did. It does not give me an option to extend the c partiton. What I want is half c and half d . 200 + gb each. Don't understnd how to do that. I have it back now to c 60 gb and d the rest.

You'll need to use a 3rd party Partition Manager to do the Resizing.

Use free Partition Wizard bootable CD: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93322-partition-wizard-use-bootable-cd.html

Boot PW, select 1 for screen res, rightclick D>Resize, drag left grey border to the right to size as you want it, OK.

Next rightclick C>Resize, drag right grey border to the right to take up unallocated space you made, OK. Apply all steps.

Here is what it look life now

Windows 7 has it's limtations as far as resizing partitions goes. You can go one way but not the other. I wasn't really sure what you were trying to do.

If you set up the partitions with 200GB each the first time then it would work but for what ever reason you can only extend a partition in one direction with Windows 7.

Use the link that Greg posted, that will give you more leverage on that partition and will allow you to extend the C drive into the D drive.
