Hi there
I can't believe this
a smallish file gave me message "About 22 Hours remaining" on a simple copy (300 MB file)

It completed of course in a few seconds but how is explorer calculating this value.

Maybe the computer thought I was using Paper Tape instead of Fast LOCAL SATA disks. (Not even across a Network, or external USB drives).

Cheers

Try replicating the issue. Could be a miscalculation, or maybe the calculation was took when the drive(s) were in use.

Other Info
Using a netbook currently for travel. Also own a Dell 755 and a T500 and a Toshiba P105.
That's one of those 'niggles' that I had when I used Vista. Bloody annoying. I have also seen this on occasion on my Windows 7 machine. I think mine went to a day or so, then came crashing down to a few hours, then minutes. If Microsoft can't ever get this sorted then I would sooner not have that feature at all, and just have a simple bar moving across!

Same here
I'd rather simplified CORRECT info like a bar moving across the top rather than INCORRECT detailed info.

Mind you just suppose the size of the bar was calculated using the same algorithm.

I dont like the way they handle file transfers. They seem to copy it to a temporary location before transferring it to the final user requested place. That just asks for fragmentation. The same method is used when downloading files in IE.
